Erm im running a samsung netbook, optimised for traktor pro, its got 2 gb of ram and the standard intel atom processor…
I have to have it plugged in to be able to run properly as when plugged into mains it gets overclocked to make the most out of it.

Everyone says its stupid djing with a “netbook” but Its light… cheap…. if it got robbed it wouldnt be as bad as a 2500 euro macbook getting stollen, and I can fit it (in its case) in my bag with my 2 main controllers

MacBook Pro. It’s the shizzle, though you get away with something that has less beef.

That’s because netbooks are a bit light on processing power.

To the OP, my laptop and specs are in my sig. As for what I would recommend, first, how much are you willing to spend? And second which do you prefer, Mac or Windows?

I’ve only ever used pc so I’m leaning towards that, but macs are appealing. I’m willing to spend $700-800 so I’m not sure that a mac is going to be in my price range.

With that price range, I would suggest checking out some factory refurbished laptops. Most come with full warranty’s.

I currently use my 13″ Macbook Pro for my live performances, and my Fujitsu Lifebook for home production. I used to use the latter for everything, and it worked fairly well, if not better than my Macbook! (To be honest, my Macbook’s crashed more times on me than my PC! Go figure ;)) I use my Macbook live mainly because of the ease of use, and I can get up and running in less time compared to my PC.

I personally recommend a PC that’s been optimised for media – you’ll be spending a lot less for the same specifications of a Macbook!

Well if a mac is not in your price range, you should google “Hackintosh”. What that means is that you can install the Mac OS (operating system) on a Windows PC depending on the compatibility of the parts. There are sites you can look at to see what pre-assembled computers are compatible with this process, but the process is actually fairly easy now. A year ago, it took hours of programming, but now it’s as easy as wiping a computer, loading a disk, running two programs, and clicking install. This would let you have the stability and ease-of-use of the Mac OS, at the price of any compatible Windows computer + 30 USD for the install disk. I would definitely do some searching about this because although I’m on a Mac now, my next computer will be a Hackintosh.

I use a Lenovo Thinkpad…because I like Windows more than Mac OS.

If you’re not computer-savvy, then I suggest you get a Macbook Pro. Don’t get insulted guys, but I generally call Macs “dummy proof”…which means someone who isn’t deep into how an OS works and how to optimize Windows will get better satisfaction from a Mac. Mainly because Apple protects the consumer from himself.

If you want Windows and Lenovo isn’t your thing, then look at Sony Vaio or Toshiba Laptops. Also invest in a FULL CLEAN COPY of Windows and not the butchered version that comes with most of these laptops. From there, just keep up on how to optimize your laptop and keep the OS running smooth.

I also suggest no matter what you pick (Mac or Windows), you max out your ram.
