Think i’m going to go with the Mackie SRS450 v2…..look like speakers you can use at home and on the road……£350 at the moment

Cheers Phil they do look good quality but i’m really looking for something to use in the garden for parties etc so i’ll probably end up blowing the krk’s….think the Mackie will be the safer option

Hey! I’m very interested in this thread, because I’m on a budget and I could buy KRKs or PA Speakers. I want to be a mobile DJ so maybe I would buy the PA speakers instead of monitor speakers (also to mix at home), because that way I could save money and have a better start, since I could do little gigs with them to get more money to buy monitor speakers later on. I’d be glad if you keep me up-to-date with your decision!

Definitely, using studio monitors as PA speakers is really not a good idea 🙂

Phil, would you say using PA Speakers as Monitors is okay for DJing?

As long as they sound good, yes.

Why the Hell would you ever use Studio Monitors for gigs even house parties is such a freaking waste!
Studio monitors are not meant to be played loud…they are meant for clarity, Rocking expensive monitors at a house party is a good way to kill the life of your monitors right quick.

The store price up here for the KRK RP8s is around 280 bucks Each brand new.

For that price you can pick up some low end Active Beringher or Mackie PA monitors for roughly the same price, the difference being the Mackies or Behringers will last for many parties while the Studio Monitors will die out rather quickly.

Is the sound quality as good in the Active PA no…it doesnt really compare…but if you are throwing a house party no one cares how clean or perfect the sound is.

Save the Studio monitors for the Studio and get some PA speakers for House parties
