ParticipantI use two.

ParticipantI use two also along with a Traktor Certified mixer. For me this is the perfect system that allows full control of Trakto Pro, while still allowing turntables or CDJs if necessary.
I have found that the Kontrol X1s are, for me, just the right size (I don’t need jog wheels), easy to use and the fact that’s made by NI for TP is a huge plus.August 6, 2011 at 12:24 am #5253mr stifffy
MemberI had one for a while which I used alongside my numark omni control, it pretty much gave my control for everything the standard 2 deck controller didnt, I had it mapped for loop control, sample triggering, filters, and with a shift button fx macros that triggerd a few things at once. Only sold because I decided to use my dusty old mp3 e2 for the same purpose and needed the extra cash 🙂

MemberI bought this baby today. Set up was quick and easy. Started Traktor and LITERALLY 5 minutes into a mix, I was doing things I thought would take me months to learn! Amazing is an understatement. I had the biggest dork smile all day while messing around with it. The sticking point at least for me was it’s simplicity. Everything is clearly laid out and the trial and error process is minimal.

With (Kontrol X1 + Traktor certified mixer) the only thing you need the CDJ’s for is the pitch fader really ?

You would still need time code for Traktor Scratch. Unless you’re using the Denon DN-S3700, those will generate a
2KHz sine wave for DVS purposes. With (Kontrol X1 + Traktor certified mixer) the only thing you need the CDJ’s for is the pitch fader really ?
I’m not using CDJ’s or Turntables. I only mentioned that fact that I can because it’s option should I need to go back to CDs or Vinyl. Which honestly, I don’t see me doing at all.

MemberHey thanks for the reply subculture. I also wish to take decks out of the equation but can’t work out how to get around the no pitch fader. How do you adjust your tempo when using just an X1 and external mixer ? Do you do it directly on your laptop ? I guess that’s one advantage of the DC-2000 over the X1.

In Traktor you can adjust the pitch using your laptop or you could map them to your Kontrol X1s.
I prefer to disable the pitch faders in Traktor as this allows me to see more of the track wave form.
I Synch (yes, I know the EVIL SYNCH button) my decks to the internal Clock Master in Traktor. Then I can use the Kontrol X1s to pitch bend (press the Shift button and then use the Beat/Bend buttons) when a track drifts out of synch, which happens more often than not.If only SYNCH worked as good as it’s detractors say it does…

Lol about the SYNC ! Gotta give the haters something to complain about !
Mate when you use the X1 in a club setting..(laptop + X1 + sound card) into the club mixer. Does it play out of
one channel on the club mixer or can you assign your tracktor decks to separate mixer channels ? I’m just thinking in terms
of have separate EQ control for each track. Also can you please give me some idea of what Ill need to connect to what and the number and type of cables I’ll need ?
Sorry for bombarding you with all these questions mate !

No problem, I don’t mind the questions.
Currently, I don’t have a NI sound card, my mixer (see signature) handles that function, so I can just show up and either:
a) Swap out the club’s mixer. (depending if the other DJs will want to use my mixer and if I’m the first DJ up) or
B) I can just plug my mixer into the club’s mixing board. (the last time I tried to do this, the promoter nearly had a fit!)For me B is the best option as it takes least amount of time.
As for using a soundcard with Traktor pro:
Cub installation (Direct Thru)

Internal mixer

External mixer

More information can be found on Native Instruments website.

MemberThanks again Subculture !
Lol re the promoter losing it …I think I’ll have a similar response from club management ! Phil you should do an article on “Ways to bring management around to the idea of controllers” !!
Looking at that set up I’m guessing that you can assign Traktor decks to separate channels on the mixer and have separate EQ’s…which is what I was after.
As an aside mate….not how sure reliable this is but the X1 is now being heavily discounted down here and bundled together with all sort of free stuff and packages. So all the talk is of the X2 being release in Q4.

Which is precisely how I use my set.
