ParticipantIf you want something that last you really should take a look at Denon MC6000/MC3000
They are built to last more than any other controller I have seen/tested and that is raher many.
Only other controller that is almost as good in build quality would be NS6 but that is an ITCH controller….
The S2/S4 and VCI 400 has good quality as well but not as good as MC6000/MC3000
There are good mappings for the Denon controllers. But I would lie if I told you they were as intergrated
to traktor as the S2/S4 not one single controller on the market is that.
If you want that little extra you should learn how to map however and to buy a copy of the
Traktor Bible will do the trick I am pretty sure.
Other thing is that S2/S4 is not as tank built as the MC3000/6000 neather as the VCI400December 12, 2011 at 7:19 pm #1002376Goomo
ParticipantThe VCI-400 has very big problems on windows system. I got one and I´m a windows user. This problems won´t be solved in the next two up to three months. You also should be into mapping for the VCI. It comes with a Traktor mapping, but that one isen´t that strong.
The S4 should be the right one to get started out of the box… the VCI-400 is really something for Controllerists and Mac-User…December 12, 2011 at 7:21 pm #11304Jona Menasso
MemberThank You Mr. Hessler.
Your recommendation is very welcome, but (there is always a but =) i don’t really diefor the cramped design of the MC3000 or MC6000.
I am a bit messy and i need the controler to help me a bit with the workflow and those two aren’t what i look for.
Anyway thanks for being positive and showing me other solutions for my problem that otherwise i might have surpassed.King Regards

MemberThank you Goomo. Can you Specify PROBLEM?
Do you think the S4 will last in the conditions i impose? 3 years?
How does the VCI 400 Feel like? The workflow…Thank you very much.

ParticipantI think the S4 will definitly last your conditions and serve you great the next 3 years. The VCI feels very good, very solid… and when you use a diffrent soundcard (not the internal) with windows, it works great all around. But you have to do a little mapping to make it more comfortable and the buttons aren´t taged. In my opinion regular DJ´s should choose the S4 because its ready out-of-the-box and a very well known and well mapped piece of gear. The VCI isen´t that ready for the market at the moment. If you wan´t to buy one, then wait up to february next year. The electricity plug is very loose, so it switches on and off while using… so definitly no gear for live-gigs. There is also a big windows-driver-issue, which causes latencys up to 80ms (useless for DJ`s and controllerists).

MemberThat is the insight i need… Thank you very much Goomo… I dream about something like an S4 inside the Case of a -vci400 if you get what i am trying to picture here.. i never had contact with none but the S4 looks great and the layout is very charming but the VCI looks more professional, and not the “oh look, the guy has X controller he is professional”.
I imagine that the VCI feels more Sturdy than the S4. can you verify that to me?Thank you very much for your support.

ParticipantYeah.. could be the Vestax is built of solid metal and the buttons are very professionell. But like I´ve sad the S4 is a well known gear with a lot of support and club-expirience. The VCI really has some hard teething troubles, if you know what I mean.
I`m about to send my VCI back and getting a S4 or a DDJ-T1 instead or maybe a cheaper controller, I don`t know. But when I bought the VCI controller I mentioned I bought a controller for controllerism with works with low latencys and high compatibility and which is totally mappable. But there are some really big issues with that one (some LED`S aren´t mappable, the power supply plug is piece of crap and switches the VCI on and off all the time and last but not least the driver issues, which making this gear unuseable for windows user). So the S4 is a very well known pro-controller with all good reputaions. In case of VCI-400 vs. S4… You definitly should choose the S4.December 12, 2011 at 8:43 pm #11313Jona Menasso

ParticipantI mean that the s4 was used from DJ`s in clubs with a very good feedback. The VCI is brand new out on the market and has no reputations… except my one…

ParticipantI’m gonna have to say that the DN-MC6000 is a good bet if you want just smooth mixing. The two you are looking at are more controllerist controllers, but if I had to choose, I’d go with the Kontrol S4 as it has an ultra-tight mapping, and comes with a full version of Traktor 2. That’s some serious bang for your buck!
