    Hi Baltazar, you have to give us a little more information. What do you mean by key A and key B?

    Depends on the songs. Your ears will tell you if it sounds right. Mixing A to B can increase the energy of the floor. Both keys have 5 notes in common and 2 notes not in common. Where you might have issues is if the A or D note in the key of A clashes with the A# or D# in the key of B. So it depends on the chord progression and melody of each song.

    thanks Muchael you helped me a lot, but if possible can you send me a link where I can laern every thing about the keys , because in the momente I dont know what you are talking about when you are saying “5 notes in common and 2 notes not in common”. thanks

    Have you looked into Mixed In Key? I’m pretty sure they have an extensive tutorial/explanation on the exact questions you have.

    My simple answer is if it sounds good, go with it, if not, forget it. I’ve played guitar for years but don’t know music theory but that simple philosophy has worked for me. I believe Terry 42 knows music theory so hopefully he might chime in with a more detailed explanation.

    If I write out the individual notes of each scale it would look like this:

    A Major Scale: A B C# D E F# G# A
    B Major Scale: B C# D# E F# G# A# B

    Notice the notes that each scale have in common: B C# E F# G#

    The notes not in common: D/D# A/A#

    You would think because both keys have 5 notes in common they would mix well together. This is most likely not the case because of the Chord progression and Harmonies under the main melody. Again use your ears. Like GJ Fukit said, “if it sounds good, go with it, if not, forget it.”

    If you are interested in learning how to mix songs in key I highly recommend the course “How To Master Key Mixing” when it becomes available on Digital DJ tips. They have a section called “A Complete Theory & Practice of Keymixing For Digital DJs” that will answer many of your questions.

    Hi

    In the tudorail of mixed in key it tells you what keys can mix with what… Just follow the rules… But just remember its only a guide rules are made to be broken. Key is important but what they don’t say is… Groove is just as important.. If you have two tracks that work in harmony but the grooves are different then it may work in harmony but the energy will be lost.

    In summary mixed in key is sold as some magic wand in a sense. It’s important yes but it’s simply the icing on the cake.

    Practice Practice Practice is the first and only rule
