    There should be a zillion readers on here that use iTunes for collection management. Hopefully they can shed some light on this. There is a recent article over on the blog on tips and tricks for iTunes use. Not quite on this subject, but might have some helpful tips for you anyway.

    Personally I can’t help you as I dislike iTunes with a vengeance (I think it’s the worst thing ever to come out of Cupertino).

    The article is brilliant but as you say doesn’t cover this topic.

    Everyone always seems to assume that your main music collection is on the same machine as your DJ software.

    Hopefully someone else is doing the same as me and can share their work flow?

    I use the iTunes cloud.

    I save and store all music on my main workhorse (27” iMac) and load the songs I intend to DJ with on my laptop via the iTunes cloud thingy… also syncs my iPad and iPhone… but as you can see I am very Applefied in my gear hehe and so everything syncs nicely.

    I use iTunes to sort my playlists out for Traktor. I have all my music for work and DJing in iTunes, but I use the genre to identify what type of music it is and if it’s usable for DJing, then simply create smart playlists that will only import what the parameters I’ve told it to search for into that playlist. I know people that do it for BPM as well. Eg 80-90 BPM smart playlist will only import 80-90 BPM tracks, then when you open Traktor all your playlists open too.

    But once again it comes down to your own preference, I use it because everything in my house is Apple, with iCloud and itunes match etc. It also suites me because i play across 3 or 4 genres/ bpms so it’s quick and easy for me to be super organised to access all my DJ tracks.

    Is it possible for Traktor to run Auto-play while using tracks in the ITunes tree?

    Short answer is no. Autoplay can only be done from playlist mode or collection mode.
