I’m not 100% sure but there is probably some option in itunes to overwrite existing tags. Just turn this off.

    Or in Traktor?

Whoops my bad. Phil is right. I was thinking you were writing comments the other way around.

Ive had the same issue and have devloped a proper work around for this:
If you are using a windows based laptop Itunes is a little buggy.

First off i suggest if you are going to use the smart playlists in itunes…use the grouping field to create your smart playlists. the reason for this is that Traktor does not use the grouping field BUT traktor will still show the playlists created in itunes, through the grouping field.

2ndly itunes does not “erase” the comments made in traktor…its just that itunes doesnt update them properly. Always do all your comments and editing within itunes or Mediamonkey or something like that.

Once you have done any type of changes in itunes or any 3rd party program, you will need to do consistancy checks on your playlists to show all the updates.

Itunes is still really buggy for id3 tagging and such so it is much better to do all your editing and such with a program like Mediamonkey then use itunes to create your smart playlists then import into traktor as a playlist.

It adds a few more steps but then you wont ever run into issues of itunes “erasing” things.

    Hi again,

Thanks for replying – Hee Won Jung answers seems to be they way to work around iTunes. And then it´s always a good feeling knowing I´m not the only who have ripped my hair out of the head because of this “bug” in iTunes.

Though, I still have a few questions:

Phil – How do I turn off Traktor editing comments, without loosing the ability to manage cue points, beatgrids and so on?

Hee Won Jung – So it´s basically iTunes way of handling comments field that sucks – I do not make the comments in Traktor, I write them directly in iTunes and then when importing to Traktor or play them in iTunes a few days later – they reset to whatever they where before editing?

But to get you right – I need to DL mediamonkey just to manage the comments field, and then my problem with comments resetting should be gone? If so, that extra step is really worth it 🙂

Oh – and a extra question: Is it possible to add more than one grouping to a track?

I use comments to sort the tracks in different playlists – often more than one.
