If it matches the song, yes a new download will be 256k AAC.

yes , it also does not give album artwork if you use a WAV file setting or after loading 2 TB of music like 5 times after they lost my music 5 times , I tried to load my bought and paid for CD’s again, and on about the 12th album(CD) album information on DJ Baby Anne “Live in Las Vagas” was spelled wrong Vegas is  not spelled with 2 “aa’s”. So I gave up and loaded my collection on an external drive with a 2001 model Inspiron laptop  and have no issues. Album artwork is there with few exceptions. Also don’t store on the cloud! if it gets lost you’re not guaranteed to get it back even if you purchased it all on Itunes. Music ripped by osx can’t be read on a pc either.

If (and with me that is always a BIG if :D) I have my facts right, 256 AAC is the equivalent of 320kbps MP3. In which case they are both the highest level lossy format audio. The only thing higher would be WAV or lossless formats. The latter not always supported by all DJ software.

I think more important is having EVERYTHING you use in the same format. I’d rather have everything in 320kbps MP3, than stuff mixed with WAV, MP3, AAC, etx.

You can always keep a copy of high quality originals in a separate place (external storage, online storage) and then run a copy through iTunes Match ending up with all your files in the same quality and format.
