ParticipantYep I’m definitely going to do that, my father is a doctor so he got me an appointement (english word for “rendez-vous”?) quickly. Anyway, hard to not jump on conclusions when you wake up almost deaf :/ I pray that it will go again…

ParticipantI agree with Phil.
Plus…take a break from the noise. Our ears can handle some loudness…but not a constant state of it.

ParticipantI picked up a set of these a while back:
http://www.earpeace.com/products/hd-hearing-protection
Tried to use them at my last gig, but I found I couldn’t hear what was coming out of the speakers very well so I took them out again. I think I just need to wear them more often so I get used to it.

ParticipantI have a crazy pulsing sound in my ears after gigs due to the booth speaker smashing straight down my ear, i use some cheap ear protectors now and they are good but i cant hear a thing with them on so I have to boost the levels in my headphones.
Although I find my ears adjust to the muted sound better if i put them in as soon as i walk in the club but still i find myself boosting my headphones. It is better though and i will continue to wear them because i cant stand my ears pinging and pulsing all the time. It is a real nightmare for DJs and musicians !!!August 22, 2014 at 8:54 am #2050105Lamid45G
ParticipantHope everything works out for you X,

Our prayer with you along the way …August 22, 2014 at 9:56 am #2050120gullum
ParticipantZedd got his wake up call recently http://news.djcity.com/2014/08/zedd-diagnosed-with-sudden-hearing-loss.html
I am already quite deaf after 30 years of constant loud music so please protect your ears

Participantjgarbett : Well you should buy some high quality earplugs. A lot of DJs and producers wear it and it doesn’t ruin the way you mix !
Gulli : Yeah I heared about Zedd, since like he’s recovering I saw a post about it on Twitter. I hope he does because wow it’s depressive.
DJRizki : thank you, it seems to be a bit better today… The tinitus came back to it’s original “volume”, the same as in my left ear now… But I’m still quite deaf from right ear, feels like I’m almost wearing an earplug… But I’m not :/

KeymasterWearing a pair of these all the time when the volume levels get to high or I had a gig every night:
http://www.etymotic.com/hp/mp915.htmlWearing the predecessors of those since 2001.
My hearing is still very excellent (according to doctors above average for my age).Yes good ear protection is expensive, but your hearing should be considered very valuable.
If you cannot afford these, then get a pair of thunder plugs, they cost like 10 bucks and are even quite OK to wear under your cans.

Tried to use them at my last gig, but I found I couldn’t hear what was coming out of the speakers very well so I took them out again. I think I just need to wear them more often so I get used to it.Apart from the comfort factor (I can’t wear these under a motorcycle helmet or under headphones, they start to irritate after 30 mins, etx.), it really pays to get custom made plugs. Both the fit (excellent as they are made specifically for your ears and the material is very friendly for long term wear (I can sleep with them in when in a noisy environment, very handy if you are sleeping at a festival 🙂 ) and the sound damping are very good. The damping is as straight as you can get it. I turn my booth speaker up only when I prepare a transition and then again during the transition. I turn it down the rest of the time. I do have my headphone slightly louder than I would without earplugs, but not exactly at hurricane volume. It did take some practice, but I can do it as good as I could without plugs now.

ModeratorBy the way, I use these (http://www.alpine.nl/gehoorbescherming/otoplastieken-aanmeten/). The price is not cheap, but very reasonable for custom plugs.
Alternatively, you can go to custom in-ears, but they will set you back between 800-1200 USD for a real good pair 🙁

KeymasterHave you tried the etymotics?
I mean they are also like 400-500 bucks, but they come with a custom fitting instruction and like 20 different pads that you can form to some degree. While it is not custom made for you, they have a great range to adjust them to your ear.
They sit so well I do not even feel them when riding my motorcycle. -
