Well it has some learning curve, but if you already know your way around DJ software it is doable with a bit of getting used to.
The thing is to ask yourself if Traktor is for you. For example I have a Traktor license, I even made my own mapping for the Terminal Mix etc. but I just do not like the workflow that I need to use. So I went back and am using Serato DJ now.
Same for Virtual DJ, if you know it and like it, then by all means go for it. VDJ is in its latest version an absolutely power horse and as long as you do not use remix decks, there is nothing it cannot do.

    I hear you Terry,

It is defiantly a difficult decision, the thing with the Denon MC3000 is that if I don’t like traktor I can go on to use VDJ which is more expensive but does the job well! I am also considering the Terminal Mix 4 (Shouldn’t have brought the n4 with it not being serato fully supported yet). I have tried to play with the n4 mapping for traktor with no luck it bugged out very quickly so only got a few minutes with it, so cannot say I’ve tried it enough although by watching reviews and vids about it, it does look like a very powerful software!

you can get the demo version of traktor for free, just try it out for yourself. it can do everything that serato can, just does it differently. i often jump between softwares and find that the biggest challenge is getting to know the interface.

I switched from VDJ to Traktor and had a learning curve of about 5 minutes. Seriously, 1 mix session and you’ll be comfortable with it. They’re both very good software so just go with what you like.

Sounds excellent, I’m trying to find vids on how to mix using traktor though as it seems most traktor users (not stereotyping now but most) use sync to beat match their tracks, so is this the same as any other dj software whereby you can see both waveforms together and manual beat match them? Is there a setting in the ui to do this?

You can manually beatmatch with anything. What you’re talking about is waveriding and I am not aware of a way traktor can do this the way you are used to (then again I’m not at all interested in it so I haven’t tried either). The wave forms are not stacked on top of each other they are completely separate for each track (again at least the way I have it set). Manual beatmatching is matching the bpm’s by ear without any help from software, lining the waves up so they match is waveriding.

Yes this is what I meant and Yes i see each waveform is separate so more skill of the ear is needed to beat match, although i see you can use phase meters to help align the tracks better..

Traktor does this a bit differently. It has a “blinking thing” in the deck, that lets you (if the beatgrid is correct) determine if your decks are in sync or not. So while you cannot match waveforms easily like in Serato, you can easily “blink things together”… it is a totally different workflow and I can do it, I just prefer the waveform though.

And for the TM4: I love it and use it all the time… with the new multiple FX Serato made me very happy 😉

Fair enough, Can only wait now till I get the software and start playing around with it 🙂 That Multi-FX does look awesome the TM4 is still a beast but I want something different so gone for the Denon MC3000 🙂
