Pretty much what I would have said.I used to think Electro House was a fad…look how wrong I was. It just keeps changing slightly. The Guetta stuff today is a far cry from Benassi’s Satisfaction back in 2002.
I’d take Satisfaction over Guetta any day, and yeah I do remember when that song was huge (was that really 2002? I thought it was a few years later then that)
The whole Skrillex/Brostep nonsenese will disappear the same way most electroclash did…. The underground stuff will never die, it’ll get a helluva lot less more prominent though I’d imagine, in 10 years of DJing I’ve seen this sort of stuff a few times (though this seems more annoying to my ears then any other “fad” maybe I’m getting old)

ParticipantThis was the first tune someone showed me that he deemed “dubstep”. I’m sure some will argue now on that, but if I saw more stuff like this, I’d be a dubstep DJ.

Hey D-Jam, good post, nice tune. I’d definitely put this in the D&B bracket, BPM up around the 160-170 mark (not that this necessarily dictates the genre).
As an aside, I was rummaging through my vinyl earlier and found this, great tune:

ParticipantIf you get a chance to see Dub FX live then do it. He’s a beatboxer that just uses a loop recorder to layer all the sounds of his song then sings or raps over them. He’s awesome and a really nice dude.

MemberI think we’re just seeing a super fast development of variants of genres, which began with UK dub getting exposed to a wider audience and has developed into Knife Party styled complextro. I personally think it’s got a ways to go before it burns itself out, with the wide availability of DAWs and the relatively low barriers for entry into music production, new spins, combining these sort of things and a huge variety of genres will be around for quite some time.

Although bear in mind Dubstep has been around for around a decade-ish from it’s birthplace in London, UK, it’s not new (it’s a sub-genre developed out of UK Garage). Also Drum and Bass is still huge as an underground sound as well as having a large mainstream audience – again, in the UK, from where it originates (from around 1993-94, possibly earlier as sped up breaks were used in hardcore in the very early 90’s).
Both of these genres have developed over time and as others have said, continue to do so; along the way a sub-genre may break out and create it’s own underground scene, which has always been the evolution of dance music, in fact, all music.
Took the words right out of my mouth. Its only considered ne wnow as the U.S. have got there hands on it now and it is becoming more mainstream. I have been listening to dubstep for a coupel years now and like any genre of music the talented artists that can actaully make good music will have longevity in thier careers and those just riding the wave/ “current fad” will be washed away come the next cycle
