FX is an input/output stream, so unless you can find the right cable AND software that will allow you to use both the mic and the headphone connections in that jack, you are probably out of luck. Alternatively you could use either an external USB sound card (with the Camera Connection Kit) or experiment with something like the Alesis iO Dock II.

    http://www.alesis.com/products/view/io-dock-ii

The second challenge is that in studio terms, external sound processing (i.e. FX) is often mono. So I am not sure what FX apps exist that run on an iPad and allow you to process stereo inputs.

The iO Dock is at least something that gives you full high-quality audio output from your iPad while being able to charge it at the same time and it would make hooking things up easier than through the TRRS connector of your iPad.

Hi, at the beginning of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb6VWRCrBSs you can see it’s possible to use the iPad running the RMX-1000 app, but i think it can be used only with the new DJM-900NXS2, it’s connected with the Lightning cable probably to the mixer.
    Hope i help you.

    Good eye, Mauro.

You can indeed hook it up to the DJM900NXS2 and get 5 extra FX to use. The other option is to play iTunes tracks and add the FX to the normal audio output (i.e. headphone socket). It seems there are some add-ons so you can use it with other apps or tracks. Not quite sure how that will work. I don’t read anything about being able to add this iPad app to a regular FX loop (i.e. out from controller/mixer and back to controller/mixer).

Hi, i’ve found another video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNuppIDDHFU# here you can see it’s a new exclusive feature for the DJM-900NXS, so if you have another mixer it doesn’t work.
You can use also the Launoupad app,i’ve updated the app for iPad and now (for 2,99€) you can send MIDI signal so i think it can be synced with MIDI devices/other apps/DAW/DJ software, so you can use to launch clip and keep in sync with other devices you uses, i don’t know the potential of this app but it looks great.
