ParticipantA good starting point is the free lessons or better yet the paid courses here at DDJT.
It does a good job of giving you a solid base and many have used it with great success.

KeymasterHi and welcome!
Well if you just want to get into it easily, you prolly chose the wrong software π
Serato or Cross are much easier to get into…I agree you should prolly start at the beginning and our “How To Digital DJ – Fast” Course is your best bet to get up and running fast.

ParticipantTraktor has a ridiculous number of options and features, most of which you won’t need for now – so just ignore them or turn them off. For instance, if you’re only using 2 decks then pick the display option that hides the other 2.
Read through the Traktor manual and have a go at all of the tutorials in there. This will give you a good grounding in technique.
Learn how to use the recording feature, and get into the habit of recording your practice sessions. Listening to your sessions is the single best way to accelerate your learning. You can also record your mixes to share with your mates or upload to a site such as Mixcloud.
DDJT’s free lessons are here – http://www.digitaldjtips.com/free-dj-training-courses/
Although most are aimed at DJs looking to go pro, you might find something of interest.I’ll add another vote in favour of “How To Digital DJ β Fastβ, which you can find with other courses at http://www.digitaldjtips.com/how-to-dj-training-courses/
Good luck, and remember to have fun amongst all the learning.

ParticipantHi all,
Thanks for your help. I did have a go on Serato and Virtual DJ and found it easy to work with – but money was an issue for me and the traktor controller came bundled with the software.
As well as the software, I think it’s getting used to all the new language when reading manuals or watching videos which is confusing me, could I suggest DDJT have a DJ dictionary? Ha. At the minute I can’t work out if learning is easy or hard? easy to mix but software is difficult to understand? I guess it’s the beginning of a long journey!
Thanks for the comments John, I’m recording my mixes π

ParticipantTraktor is very very scary to someone who is new to the world of djing but the key to it is having a passion for music, a willingness to learn and last but not least perseverance…everyone struggles in the begining but if you keep at it slowly but surely everything will fall into place

ParticipantThank you Vincent!
I persevered today and read the entire Traktor instruction manual and found tons of information! Now to organise the music collection!

ModeratorWell, as has been said here before, picking your software because it came with your controller is not the best decision.
YOU should be who drives the decision of what you need. And then you find a way to make it happen.
Traktor is relatively specific DJ software and if you are not that kind of DJ, you are stuck not only with software that isn’t the best for you, but with hardware that is not really optimally suited for the software you switch to.
Building and maintaining a good collection in your DJ software with all the prep work that goes into it takes lots of time and dedication. Switching software becomes harder the longer you wait, because it feels like a total waste (and rightfully so) to have to do all that prep work all over again.
So, better to re-evaluate your options. Easier to change directions now, while you are still just passed the starting line, than a year down the road.

ParticipantOnce again, Vintage dropping knowledge.
If you keep an eye on Serato’s social media pages or their email list, they announce great deals sometimes. I bought Serato for 69$ during an X-mas sale and keep an eye on your local guitar Center and check ebay for deals on controllers.
I know you just bought the S2, and if you’re really set on learning Traktor, then all we can do is wish you the best of luck.
Otherwise, get a smallish controller for Serato and pay for the Digital DJ fast course. I’ve just started and learned a lot of the basic stuff I was tripping over during Mixing 1 and am about to started Mixing 2 which was the main reason why I bought the course access.
