That’s how I like to play but some people have adhd when it comes to mixing and can’t be that patient. Top 40 djs are the biggest offender’s of this as are the younger generation of the more popular dance styles. Those of us that grew up on 12s are more likely to enjoy and mix the way Cajmere does I think.

You are so right with that one. All comments made so far are so true. What i Do is watch what people are doing, and i tend to let them groove to the track and i do my mixing in the tail end of the songs so by that time they feel the song ending, next track is coming in. 🙂 But i love Cajmere and Old school is where its at :p but thats me:).

And if you guys were doing a mix tape, would anything change?
I’m having this issue : When is the best time to mix 2 songs on a mix tape? I play prog house, electro and remixed top40. Most of my followers are more into top40 stuff but are not afraid to explore prog house and electro. Those I find pretty hard to mix honestly.
I am trying to make my second mix tape (and being pretty busy so unfortunately practice time suffers) and I’m wondering what kind of mixing is more appropriate and especially when to apply it. Most of my stuff is prog house and I’m not sure about letting breaks play in the songs. I fear too long breaks, even good ones, will have people loose interest in my work.
    How you guys do it?

I avoid unwanted lulls in breaks by dropping a new song (the part where the drums already hit) just at the beginning of the breaks but I’m not sure if this is the best way, I’m a beginner too.

i think this all depends on your personal style and how you like to mix.

i know a few tracks that start off great and end poorly so i like to mix those out early, on the flip side there are plenty tracks that i have to let the whole track play too.

on a sidenote – i hate it when a dj cuts a track i love short, depends on the nite and incoming but it its a good way to get me to take a break from the dancefloor occasionally ^_^
