KeymasterI have rarely seen DJs with in-ears.
I tried it once, but if you are used to DJing with one ear on the headphones and the other open, then I dislike them.
Also in-ears are far worse to remove and put back on.
So generally unless you are really sure your workflow will support in-ears then I wont recommend them.If you are dead set on in-ears, then by all means go for it.
The best in ear solutions I have found are AKG, Sure and etymotics.June 18, 2014 at 12:28 pm #2037925mathewcanavan1@hotmail.com
BlockedI always mix with both ears, with cue buttons lit up on the mixer. In the club I play it’s pretty load and the booth monitor is in a stupid place where people keep turning it around……
Which shure iem are you referring to?
Thanks

KeymasterI have used the SE425 and they are great. I do not use for DJing but for listening to music and they are awesome.

BlockedI’ve read a few reviews on the shure se215 but I think I’m going to go with the pioneers dje1500 as pioneer have always treated me well (gave me a free pair of headphones and numerous other things)
I’ll write back and let you know how I get on when them arrive it will probably be next weekend.

ParticipantIf you really wanna DJ with earbuds, have you considered changing the existing buds that come with them for other ones? My bi-flange tips i got with my SM e10 is really nice, helps block out a good amount of sound. Tri-flange eartips might be even better, although for some people, they find it goes into their ear a little too much

^Those are a pic of some Triflanges lolJune 25, 2014 at 6:36 pm #2038944mathewcanavan1@hotmail.com
BlockedI don’t have any headphones now as I sold my hdj1500 and theses don’t look like they would fit.
I will get the dje1500 and they come with a few different tips so I’ll see how I get on, if not I’ll give theses a try. ThanksJune 26, 2014 at 4:25 am #2038983Lamid45G

Moderatorin-ears are a good plan, for several reasons. If you can get used to DJ-ing in your head only, which is not for everyone. If you are used to the “classical” way of one side headphone the other for the booth monitor, the transition might not work for you. Well worth trying (you can try it with your regular headphones by using the cue/master balance and mixing completely in your headphones) before investing lots of money into good in-ears.
And good in-ears are a lot of money (I am not saying expensive, as that implies the quality and price are skewed towards the higher price range). For me custom molded would be the first criteria. I can’t stand all those flanged thingies. After 30 minutes they drive me crazy. Custom molded I can wear for 10 hours straight if need be. There are some companies now offering DJ specific in-ears with custom molding. The frequency curve has been adapted to fit the DJs needs (musicians will sometimes have curves that fit their specific instrument – like boost at 2-4Khz for vocals and or 75-100Hz cuts).
The advantage of in-ears that fit like a glove (and you don’t mind wearing) and sound terrific for your purposes, is that you WILL use them most of the time. And if you keep the volume decent, it’s a great way to DJ with “built-in” hearing protection.
Obviously if you try to replicate PA volume levels in your in-ears, that argument doesn’t fly. It’s highly discouraged to do this though.
Not sure about all prices on all brands. But I know some of the high end pro brands can run you up to 1.000 dollars for a custom fitted pair.
I personally don’t think you’ll find a 150 GBP replacement for a good set of headphones in that price range though.
Just my two cents.

BlockedLike I said, I did have the pioneer hdj1500 so I would of thought they would be the same kind of quality sound wise as the dje1500 in ear monitors.
I always dj with headphones on both ears, using the cue buttons on the mixer, I can’t get the hang on djing with one sided headphones,
Pioneer have advertised these not directly as dj monitors but they seem like they would do the job,If my hdj1500 did me fine for £150 I think or hope the dje1500 would be just as good when I get used to using in ear monitors.
If not I’ll have a nice set of in ear monitors to listen to music on the way to my gigs 🙂

ModeratorNow obviously they are two different animals. Just because they “share” the same productnumber, sort of, doesn’t mean they have the same sound qualities. No doubt they sound ok.
I could not use them personally though. I just can not get used to those kinds of plugs. I used to have sennheisers like that (just for my mp3 player) and got tired of wearing them after 15-30 minutes.
Currently I have custom molded ear plugs (protection) and it’s a difference of night and day wearing those.
However, at the end of the day, it’s your body, your ears. So, as with most personal gear, if it works for you … 😀

BlockedThey are here………. First impressions were….sound wasn’t great listening to music from ipad, on itunes. however I have since used them on my mixer and traktor, soundcloud on my ipad etc. and sound superb, so must be my setting on itunes. bass is great but not overpowering.
Highs are nice, crisp and tight.
Mids are well balanced. It Was a bit unusual putting them on as I’m used to over ear headphones. But when you put them on properly they stay in place perfectly well, and have not fell out…..if you have correct tips on the end.
The only problem I did find was trying to swap the tips over, as it was quite awkward but this will only need to be done once when you have correct size.
I put the (Polyurethane earbud) which only comes in a medium on, the sound is perfect with these, although I could do with a small size which only comes with the dje2000, so I’ve emailed pioneer asking if I can purchase them.I’ll use these tonight djing and see how they hold up tonight, sound wise
🙂

BlockedUsed these Saturday night, the sound isolation is great however there seemed to be a lack of bass, but I think it’s because the foam pads are too long for my ears, as if I pushed the ear piece in again it would sound fine but then after a few minutes they would slowly go back away from my ears if this makes any sense. So I’ve trimmed the back of the foam pads and they seem to fit a lot better and sound even better. So I’ll try them again Friday night and see if that makes a difference, I’ve only trimmed about 1mm from the back end of the foam pad.
I don’t know how to post pictures on this site so I will do if anyone is interested.

ParticipantI basically wrote my review about the Pioneer DJE-2000 (and 1500) on the product spotlight page and I really do like these I.E.M.s. more than my headphones (yes, the 2000s have a much more present bass than the 1500s but cost another $140). http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2014/03/pioneer-launches-dje-2000-dje-1500-ear-dj-headphones/
The “Comply” headphone tips seem the best to me because they’re not hard rubber-on-skin (… ahem) which irriates my ear canal (results may vary from DJ-to-DJ), but to each their own.July 6, 2014 at 9:21 am #2041127DJ Vintage
