ParticipantI can’t comment on Serato, but will say that you should edit your post (if you still can) to switch it from an all caps title – that is against the rules ’round here.

ModeratorDeathy said it. ALL CAPS is considered shouting and that does not comply with our posting guideline that states we only like polite and respectul behavior here. I have changed it this time, but considered yourself warned 🙂 .

ModeratorOn-topic:
Beta-testing is usually fine, outside a production environment. As opposed to alpha-testing your input will most likely not change any of the design specs (i.e. features, lay-out, look and such), but your “job” as a beta-tester is to try all features and find any and all bugs. In this way you help the manufacturer and ultimately yourself and fellow DJ’s to have an as much bug-free product at launch as possible.
So, keep it TOTALLY separate from your gigging setup (make a copy of – part of – your collection to use and don’t use the same collection you use to play out with!) and use it only in the privacy of your practice space.
Heed that advice at your own peril. There is always a risk involved using computers and software while playing a gig, but with beta it’s not so much if it will crash, but when.

ParticipantI highly doubt it’ll be years before the update from 1.8.2 to 1.9. Maybe six months to a year, tops.
I’d say don’t unless you really need pulselocker integration. All those stories like one Pioneer issued about 95% of their controllers no longer working with Serato on El Capitan would hit you first and you would have no recourse except to file a support ticket on the Serato website (Which if you’re not super detailed in your description of the problem and how you got there, is useless to them) and hope there’s a fix right around the bend.
If you don’t play out much/at all, then doing beta releases is fine if you have a backup program like MIXXX, Traktor, or rekordbox DJ for those instances you’re booked for a show and Serato is being problematic. If you rely solely on Serato or play out a lot, then stay away from Beta releases, as last thing you want to do is cancel a gig or gigs because your DJ program stopped playing nice for whatever reason.

KeymasterAll I can say is: 1.8.2 -> no issues, extremely stable.
Beta 1.9: has some crashes here and there and sound issues. It is beta software and not meant to be used live.My guess is 1.9 final will be there in under 3 months. It was about the same with previous Serato beta programs.

ParticipantAh I see! Then I believe I’m gonna wait and see what happens during the next several months. Thank you for the get-backs Gentlemen. Well done! As far as the all caps/yelling thing I’ve always thought the “!” was yelling and was only typing in all caps in hopes of getting quicker responses. Fear not however, I will heed the warning. At this time I’d like to take a moment if I could and offer my sincerest to “Deathy” from above. Deathy I apologize if my “all caps” were so loud and distracting that it forced you to make a special trip here to then comment off-topic. Apparently I’m not familiar with the all consuming, “black hole” power of the “all caps” and will be more cautious when or even if, if I use them in the future.

ModeratorALL CAPS goes back to the days of text only chat rooms like IRC and such. Very impolite then and we carry it forward.
You actually kinda confirmed it yourself “in hopes of getting quicker responses” = drawing more attention = is what you would use shouting for irl 😀
As for Deathy, don’t worry … he trolls all the forums. He’s like an unofficial deputy moderator.

ParticipantYeah, like Chuck says, I have just been around makin’ trouble for so long that I jump in and try to help carry some of the load when I can.
