Hello Pierre 🙂
Sampling can mean a number of things;
So further Explanation of what your Definition of Sampling is would be helpful :);
I cut Samples from Tracks in Arrangement View (these can be as Small as One Snare Drum Kick; or up to as Many Bars as you Please);
However; if you mean ‘Sampling a Live Instrument’; then Ableton has (within its Instrument Browser) an Instrument called a ‘Looper’ where you can Sample things such as Trumpets; Saxophones; Drums; Literally Anything you can think of;
You can also Plug a Microphone Straight into Ableton and Record a Guitar; Bass; Drums; Voice; and again Anything you can think of;
There are also a number Of Videos I can point you to where a man is Famous for making ‘Found Sounds’; such as Hi-Hats out of the Sound from screwing up a Crisp Packet; and a Kick Drum from just Tapping the Microphone;
And to your last Question; Ableton Live Suite contains around 11 Instruments; where Ableton Live on its Own contains around 4 Instruments; Ableton Live Suite also contains the Sampler Instrument (which is Large and contains 4 LFO’s; Filters etc); and Ableton Live doesn’t contain Sampler; it just has a Smaller (and Less Powerful) Instrument called ‘Simpler’; I also believe that the ‘Suite’ contains Looper; where the Standard Edition doesn’t;There are a Number of Dedicated Hardware Controllers for Ableton (if you wish to have one); the Most Famous would be the APC40; then there is the APC20; and Novation Launchpad;
Details of these controllers can be found at the URL below 🙂http://www.ableton.com/controllers
This is Your Thread; so Please Continue to ask As Many Questions as You Need 🙂

MemberHi again emma!
yes i ment sampling sounds from other songs, buts thats coll you can do both. ableton really seems like you can do alot, wich is kind of difficult for me because i am a total beginner. but i will learn! could you link to those videos? i saw an interview with paul kalkbrenner, and i think he said that he made alomst all sounds be himself (or not by himself, but recorded them by himself)
so what is the difference between an apc40 and mpc49?
for me i just wanna make cool sounds and cool basslines, i dont need total control yet and i think i should learn how to make good sounds first..
bless

MemberHello Pierre 🙂
Apart from DJ’ing; my Life is Spent Cutting Samples from Other Tracks 🙂 🙂I have just spent over half an hour looking for Tutorials on How to Sample from Original Tracks; but have not been able to find one; so what I will do is Post my instructions by Screenshots; but as that will take some time; I may not be able to do that until tomorrow; but I will Do It For You 🙂
First of all though; this is a Video from Ableton that shows some of the Capabilities of the ‘Sampler Instrument’; (I don’t actually use ‘Sampler’ as I am Not Brainy Enough); but it is still a Good Video;

This Next Video is the Video you asked for from the Man who makes Sounds from ‘Found Sounds’; he is Great 🙂

From the Beginners Point Of View of Making a Track; Please watch these Video’s which are made using the Demo Version of Ableton 🙂
