deathy
ParticipantNo worries about hijacking… I’d be down for that, I live in the suburbs of Amsterdam (Purmerend). heh.

ParticipantOh, BTW… I don’t have a car, so my “I’d be down for that” unfortunately doesn’t include the ability to pick you up from the airport, sorry.

ModeratorI am sure we can have a little “Dutch Digital DJ Tips” – getogether in Amsterdam somewhere.
Stuff like being picked up and such is not an issue.
P.s. what Deathy calls a suburb of Amsterdam is actually a whole town which we consider way outside Amsterdam LOL.

Participantheheheheheh. Yeah, that was a joke that I knew the Dutch folks would get… in American terms, it’s a suburb because it’s just a little town that is still very very close to Amsterdam – I can get to Amsterdam Centraal by bus faster than many folks who actually live IN Amsterdam.

ParticipantOh, BTW, Terry… if you’re looking to couch surf, I could probably put you up for a weekend. We’d want to talk privately about that, of coz, to discuss specifics and all that as to whether it would work for you or not.

ParticipantThat could work. I don’t have a car either But I should’ve no problem getting to Amsterdam.

ParticipantI’m starting to sit here and think about the fact that, now that I have my controller, I can remap the keyboard functionality for the things that I will only rarely use but that it would be nice to have a mapping for, or even the things that my controller just isn’t big enough for – like I could remap quads of 4×4 keys to represent the remix decks. So much that can be done.

ParticipantMy gig is confirmed (since it was only a lead, not the big bosses, who wanted it). I will be recording it so I can post it and hopefully get some feedback from y’all. I expect it to be passable for a n00b like me, and sufficient for a BBQ, but I am hoping y’all will be able to help me identify mistakes that I may not be aware of yet.

ParticipantI came up with a workable solution to the tempo control on the Instinct being a rocker switch instead of a fader. The Vinyl button tends to be the Shift button on this controller, so I made it so that if that’s held down, then the volume faders turn into the tempo faders. I set them to Soft Takeover (both the original volume fader configuration and the new tempo fader configuration) so that I have to move the slider to where it is in the program’s UI before it starts moving, so that I don’t have the volume or tempo jumping wildly when I’m shifting between them.
I’m currently in the process of adding in some additional configuration so that pressing Vinyl + the Track Up or Down selector will switch the controls between decks 1+2 and decks 3+4, including switching which is expanded, and then all the knobs switch over to that other deck.
I realize it’s a fair amount of effort to put into it (the fiddly bits of configuration can be a bit confusing), but I’m managing to really get some extra bang for my buck out of a cheap controller.

ModeratorLOL, let’s see. Your work is valued at €50+ an hour. You have spend (already) 10+ hours on mapping. So, had you gone and worked those extra hours, you could have now had a DDJ-SX with marvelous mapping 😀

ParticipantExcept I don’t just have extra work sitting around to do… I have to work with what I have. That is more brains than money, so that’s what I go with.

ParticipantAnd for what it’s worth, I’ve only been programming the controller configuration as I’m going along during practice and come up with something useful – it’s not something that I find difficult, so if I were to take the same time I spent programming and instead have done paying work for it, it wouldn’t have even added up to enough for me to upgrade to another model yet.
I realize you were just kidding, of course.
