ModeratorI may be missing something here (was on vacation for almost a week), but why do you need a DJ i/o to hook something up? There is a soundcard in the Mixtrack, right?

KeymasterNope, there is no soundcard in the mixtrack, the mixtrack PRO has the soundcard.

ModeratorOhhhhh …. must have been looking at the wrong pic then (that one had two sets of RCA out, prolly the Pro then).

ParticipantWell Phil Morse told me personally that I can’t use a soundcard with the VDJ LE software, but I have been using 7.1 HDE soundcard for a while now for in home use and it works fine, I’m confused

KeymasterWell most versions of VDJ LE do not allow configuration of audio settings, it is just the latest version for the US market that is marketed with the mixtrack that can do it and it is still doubtful that it will work with any soundcard.
So the question is not that easy to answer actually as there are so many version of LE that can do different things depending on which product they are bundled with. If you are lucky and got the right US version of the software, then … well you are in luck.August 7, 2013 at 5:40 pm #42956Jalen Smith
ParticipantMine allows me to headphone monitor with an external soundcard so I guess it would work then right?

ModeratorUhm … here’s a thought and I know money is tight these days … but why not invest 49 USD in MixVibes Cross DJ (which I am sure you will enjoy as much as VDJ and definitely more than VDJ LE). It supports a lot of controllers, including the MixTrack. It being a full version I would think it supports whatever soundcard you throw at it (can always use Asio4All drivers) and NO other limitations!
Just a thought.

ParticipantThat’s a good thought, but if I was gonna buy a software I would buy traktor since I’m more likely to use that in the long run and its only like $90 as compared to $250 for VDJ

ModeratorGlad to see you already know what software is gonna be best for you long run. Took me a while longer (been on Traktor for two years or so and am now switching to MixVibes Cross) to figure that out.
There are three options I see:
- Keep messing around with a severely handicapped version of VDJ. Lot’s of problems getting audio to work, limited functionality and investing time in your library (setting cue points, beatgridding and such) that you are not gonna be using later on (when you switch to Traktor).
- Buy the ‘best-value’ software around at the moment, Cross DJ, that gives you support for your controller, audio card and all the features unlocked (and they have some very nice features!) at only 49 USD (almost half of Traktor). They are the people that make RekordBox software (for the Pioneer CDJs), so whatever work you do on your library can be used in RekordBox too. Like with VDJ LE, when you move to Traktor later on, you’d have to do a lot of the work again.
- Go out and buy Traktor. All time and effort spent on building your library will be used in the long run, you get used to the Traktor workflow (which is way different than VDJ or MixVibes or Serato), rather than getting used to VDJ LE and then having to switch later on.
One word of warning. Traktor is not as simple to set up as some of the others are. It is highly configurable, but that comes at the price of not being easy to configure. You wouldn’t be the first one to get lost in Traktor’s setting menu. So prepare for some studying the options and possibly some frustration.
Just out of curiosity: what makes Traktor the right choice for you? Have you worked with it (at a friends perhaps)?

ParticipantAt the moment its simply the fact that its pro software that is one of the cutting edge, lots of controller options, but even with all that I don’t think its better than VDJ, I only pick traitor because its cheaper and I don’t have a job or any income at all, I’m only 16

ParticipantBut of course the reason I posted my question was for an upcoming party, my first gig, but if I have two 3.5mm to RCA cables and a splitter I can still make noise and it’ll be fine.

KeymasterActually the “fully supported” controller options in Traktor are pretty slim and I have to say most newbies that chose Traktor these days is simply “because it looks pro”.
Mixvibes Cross, Serato DJ, VDJ Pro are no less pro software and in many tasks way better than Traktor.
Now I am not saying Traktor is bad, it is a good pro software, but there is no “best DJ software”, there is just the “best software for your workflow”.The problem of course being a newbie you cannot tell yet what your workflow will be and even we long time DJs do change.
I have used Traktor when I started out for example and used it for a long time. Then I went to VDJ Pro as it totally more suited my broadcasting workflow when I was doing internet radio and again sticked with it for some time. Then my new controller came along and I wanted to give Serato a try. I totally loved it and thought to myself “why did I not try that earlier, idiot”.
Now I am not making this mistake again. I am currently trying Mixvibes Cross and have come to like it very much. Is it there to replace Serato for me? Not yet, but I keep an open mind and do not let others decide for me. I try things.
