MemberYes, Unfortunately my roommate is an EX Division-I Lineman who’s younger brother is a DJ out in LA. So when he gets really drunk he likes to come in the booth and act like he knows whats going. He is the nicest guy ever 99% of the time, but put 10+ redbull vodka’s in him and no is stopping that 300+lb monster….

Wow, two years? That’s harsh. One would think a fellow DJ would have respect for your wish to not be disturbed whilst playing… But then again, Vodka n Redbulls are not known for improving someone’s judgment.
Luckily (or maybe not) I haven’t had the opportunity to throw someone out of a club, on account that I’ve never played in one (still being in the pre-larval state of beginner bedroom-DJ), but if I ever rise to the skill level that I am capable of playing out, I’m sure this situation will arise.
I think that it’s inevitable, if it’s from drunk friends, or even sober strangers; requests, fiddling with knobs, distractions etc. will happen. I think it is because not a lot of people really understand what the DJ does. With a band, it’s different, they play music by doing… stuff with instruments, in general, I don’t think you’d see someone try to snatch the guitar from a band and start playing their own tune (there’s always exceptions to the rule, of course).
But a DJ? What is that the DJ is doing behind those turntables, how does it work? Hell, I thought the DJ was somehow responsible for the music production (having only seen EDM-DJs) a few years ago, but then I decided to read up.

ParticipantHaving to kick a friend out of a bar/booth is something I have yet to face (knocks on vinyl).
I did, however, almost fly into a rage when a friend, after repeated warnings, placed a full drink on the table my equipment was on and the drink spilled. — I’ll let that soak in for a bit.
Thankfully my quick reflexes and soberness preempted the spill and nothing more than a few dabs was needed for my laptop.
Wouldve been something else though. After that I invested in a backup laptop for “rainy days”July 19, 2011 at 5:26 pm #4166Rob Francis

ParticipantYour buddy was jealous of you. This is why he was being a pain. Sometimes alcohol reveals people for what they really are. And he hadn’t apologized for his actions.? That should tell you something right there. As for me, I’ve had friends who talk and talk as I try to work.
