I had my first ever gig last saturday and it went really really well, it was an under 18 gig (i’m only 17) so i was playing to all my friends and they all really enjoyed it and alot of them, including people i dont know gave me compliments. i was on 2nd 8-9 using my S4, all the other guys used cdj 2000s, for the last hour me and one of the local djs who is my friend decided to share the spot and do a back to back mix from my s4 to his 2000s, i was really nervous about beatmatching to his songs cause i usually just use the sync button BUT i just gave it my best shot and got it straight away, i was so proud that i learnt properly how to beatmatch and it was really an amazing gig. The promoter of the gig has already offered me to play his Over 18s new years party supporting a famous Dj, so overall, my first gig was amazing. 🙂

Thumbs up for the manual beatmatching – and here applies the article of DDJT “why digital DJs should learn beatmatching”.

First gig was a blast, my brother was my teacher..I was his little shadow . Before I would help him set up lights, carry the gear and all that to his sets around town. But that night he let me open the night for a good sized crowd, on a pretty nice system. Monitor was set up for shit, so had to use the closest one to the booth from the floor. Lucky for me his DJ partner watched over me, to make sure I didn’t train wreck . That’s probably why I wasn’t nervous at all, I actually got a couple compliments (all though from a couple of my bro’s friends..but hey lol). Felt damn good. The memories are fresh still …22 yrs later..feels like it was yesterday thinking about it ..funny that 😉

I’ve only mixed at friendly reunions, I know it doesn’t count but it helps me learn for me to be ready for a real gigs. I can tell you one thing, it’s not like I can see the future, but at my first gig I will enter sweating and about to pass out, how I leave, well that’s for me to find out.
