Good luck! I think ID3 and general music library management is one of the weakest parts of Traktor and desperately needs a simplification/overhaul. I hope they get round to it at some point. Having said that, I am not sure exactly what is causing this issue for you.

    Thanks Phil.

Yeah, sometimes I’m sorry I pulled the trigger on Traktor.

Virtual DJ was fun, but I liked the supposed functionality and sample/effects possibilities being thrown out there with Traktor in reviews, opinions, and what I was hearing from DJS whose work I respect at the club.

This is a well known issue, so I gather. It may only affect Windows users.

This is what I can find on it.

I have not tried this because I have not had time to sit down and do it yet. And I’m a little leery of being burned and having to spend further hours correcting what has already had to be corrected a few times over now.

Here’s what I could find, for what it’s worth:

    Supposed fix:

If I have any news on how it went, I’ll let you know.

Basically, any time that I enter in something in the comments 2 field, comments 1, or change the key info, it bricks what I had stored in the ‘grouping’ area of the id3 tag for my tracks. Sometimes it removes other information as well.

I’ve tried various experiements with just changing one of the aforementioned fields in Traktor, and it still overwrites my tags.

What a pain in the butt.

Is there a way to stop Traktor from doing this? I guess this would cause me to not be able to write cue points and such, but I’d rather have that than have to spend hours re-tagging my files.

    Thanks.

To be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of that.
But then I never use Traktor to edit tag files. All of my tagging, intial key and bpm info is done on my files before I import them into traktor.

    Maybe you could try that?

A good suggestion. Maybe I should clarify a bit. I don’t actually use Traktor to ‘edit’ tag files, per se. I only use it when adding comments (electro/drum n’ bass/etc.). I tried adding the comments in comments 1 and 2, and in both cases, it would overwrite all previously set information that I would have put in via Itunes/RE3/MP3 tag, etc.

Or, simply whatever info. had been put in to the song when it was obtained.

    Thanks for the tip, though.

For what it’s worth, I use Tag&Rename to edit id tags, album art, comments etc.

For the record: got with NI support, and they have acknowledged it as a known issue. They currently have no workaround, but say they are ‘working on it’.

That’s a helluva ‘work on it’ period.
