As I said, I am not a big fan of using mixer EQ for room correction. It’s way too limited for that, especially on compact mixers where both frequency and bandwidth are fixed.
Even when I use an extra mixer, I usually have everything at 12 o’clock. Room EQ-ing is mostly about removing stuff, not boosting especially with limited tools. So try to listen if there is any nasty sound and see if you can make it go away by a bit of EQ (max -3dB, with broad EQ like this you’ll kill too much of the good stuff with the bad otherwise).
If you feel the bass is lacking, it’s very tempting to push those bass EQs on the compact up. I’d still advise against it. You can do +1 or +2 if that helps, but I would definitely not do any more.
The thing is that if you start doing a little boosting on the controller too, it’s really adding up and will quickly become too much.
So you got it right, the controller is for the gig, the mixer for the room, but with proper restraint 😀 .
Good luck and greetinx.
