    Hi Squarecell,

    wow, all the time, man!

what occurs to me once a night is mostly one of these:

slam in the next track, while the filter is still down… silence
    stopping the wrong track… silence
play a track already for 2 minutes or so, and it sounds a bit odd, just to find out that the delay effect is still on from the previous track…
run a 32 beats loop and forget about it and then have to manage the next minute with boring intro beats until the breakdown comes up…
adjusting the pitch of the wrong track, so it sounds off…
wrong remix loaded of the song i wanted to play, dubstep instead of progressive…

funny thing is indeed that the audience normally doesn’t hear anything’s wrong, it’s just us, being perfectionists, i guess.

“In fact, I think it’s a nice reminder that there’s a real human behind the decks and not some computer program flawlessly sequencing everything”

    is a true statement!

    regards,

Just finished a mix, load the next track, hit the cue button, press play button. Nothing in my headphone.
Software player? Check! Input switch? Correct! Crossfader off? As always! Jiggle headphone cable! Pressing playing track’s cue, headphones working correctly. Look at the clock, time ticking away. Aaaargh!

Look at all the knobs … Filter knob stll turned full left (kill)!

Turn it to 12 o’clock and presto! Just in time for a nice smooth transition.

The crowd thinking I am sweating because it’s warm in the booth and I have been jumping around like a maniac all night.

    😀

lol – I also mix with the upfaders. The crossfader closed issue used to catch me every now and then, which is why “thru” routing is now a mandatory feature on any mixer I buy (why no thru Pioneer S9, WHY?!?).

I catch myself on the filter cranked to kill every now and then, and as I don’t have effects routed through my cue channels I tend to notice it too late. But lately, and a few times more than I’d like to admit, I do the dumbest thing and will wonder why the sound is out-of-whack, only to realise I forgot to turn up the low eq which I had dialed down for the last mix. Oops! bahahaha

FYI: Useful trick to stop yourself from stopping the wrong deck – always stop a track with pause, not cue (so if it is the wrong deck, you keep on going from where you are, not from the beginning) and keep your other hand on the fader. I never stop a track without my other hand sitting there on the closed fader to make sure I don’t bugger it up. Oh, and I have load lock enabled too for when I’m just determined to screw everything up! ha

Happens mostly with tracks that I know inside out and only “half listen” to the next song in the cans. Kind of like the mixing is done by my spine rather than the brain… I actually have more often the thing where I forget the bass filter rather than the channel knob. So something is playing… but something is missing hehe

The filter at full kill gets me too!

Slightly less off-putting is when I have the bass EQ killed when I do a hard cut to the next track. And when you slam it like that, you want the next track to come in with oomph.

So … you look at the crowd with that expectant look in your eyes … all the while counting. And on the next big downbeat … slam in the bass while pumping your fist in the air. Great move, DJ!

    LOL

Forgetting to turn off the automix after it’s been playing background for ages and then trying to play a track which i have loaded onto the opposite side of the crossfader to the track currently playing (I use 4 decks).. I don’t normally mic with the crossfader so it doesn’t occur to me and then nothing happens..

Strikes normally about once every 4 gigs… 🙁

But, we are all human and all make mistakes.. 🙂

So it’s not just me, then? 🙂

Forgetting to reset filter or other effects is the top one for me, but I think I’ve fallen foul of almost all the others listed here.

Great thread! Gonna post a version on the main site for even more stories, hopefully 🙂
