ParticipantGo with Mac and be happy,
Im not sure what do u mean by fully customized Mac cost you around 3,000 dolla ?
Mine only cost ~$1,600, i7 processor, 17 inchThe touchscreen thing eh im not so sure about that, more likely just a gimmick, imo
As you stated, its your beginner setup, go with the Traktor S2 or the numark, should served you pretty wellPS Audio interface is so 2014ish, its a fading piece of technology (in DJ world anyway), so you can safely skipped em, allocating the budgets to something else

ModeratorLike Rizki said, go with the Mac. 90% of the “advantages” you mentioned for the gaming laptops are not worth a dime for audio purposes. Built-in soundcard is rubbish, you use the one in your controller. Three monitors supported? Who needs more than one (and more than a 15″ at that – my eyes are bad, but I think a 17″ is just too much hardware between me and the crowd). 1TB harddrive? If you have more than 2000 or so tracks in your collection you should start to rethink your strategy. But unless you want to have evertything in WAV format and let’s say you want to have 10k tracks (which isn’t really helpful DJ-ing but just for arguments sake), it’s still only a 400GB load.
I’d get a new retina Macbook Pro (15″ is largest option I think) with an i7 CPU (i5 would do but don’t think they sell that in the 15″ retina one). It comes with a 512GB SSD and 16GB of memory. You’d stay below 3000 I think and they will hold their value better than any windows PC.
Seperate soundcard is not necessary anymore as Rizki states. Even if you want to do DVS, there is a fair amount of controllers that provide that now.
The right order of making a choice is determine what kind of DJ you are/want to be, figure out what workflow you (think you) have, pick the right software (Traktor, Serato, Virtual DJ or Mixvibes Cross – or any of a number of far smaller programs) and THEN find out what controller will support your workflow and software best within the budget you set for yourself.

ParticipantI think maybe by “fully customized,” perhaps what he means is “top-of-the-line.”

ParticipantFor a beginner, good luck for getting the laptop paid itself back. Not to mention everything else…
My Macbook air was effectively 600 € 😛

ModeratorYeah, I am on a used MacBook Pro i5/4GB 15″ which cost me all of 750 euro. I did put in an SSD (256GB) so add that to the price. It’s from 2010 and I have been using it for two years now with lots of pleasure.

ParticipantYeah Chuck, thats why i was wonderin what kind of Mac hes talkin about that worth $3,000 ???
Even a Macbook Air should be sufficient to feed his needs, which the OP stated at the beginner level
I still love their Dragon Edition one and on there, I can get a fully maxed out one: 1TB HDD, 4 128Gb SSD’s, 32Gb of DDR Memory, i5 processor, DVD/CDRW optical drive, 5 USB ports, a Steel Series Siberia Headset, a backpack for carrying it,
1TB HDD –> Just Chuck mentioned eh you dont need that much, there is always an external HD
4 128Gb SSD’s –> really four of them ??
32Gb of DDR Memory —> dont need this much to run a DJ software, its not adobe photoshop
i5 processor –> now this you may need to upped it maybe to i7
5 USB ports –> 2 is sufficient enough to run a DJ controller, too much !
a Steel Series Siberia Headset —> and why in the world you need this headset ? you need a real DJ headset, not some CS headset
a backpack for carrying it —> you prolly still need to buy another baackpack for your controller, cuz i magined laptop+controller wont fit in this backpackSeems to me you building more to a gaming rig, remembered it be much safer to focus your laptop for one ultimate purpose

ModeratorWell in all honesty a new MBP 15″ retina will run you upwards of 2600 euro, so yes, close to 3000 USD.

ParticipantThanks for the help. Seeing that the newer is close to 3K, I am actually thinking about a Refurbished MBP 2012 now. Some of them are below $1000 and that’s good. Would the 13″ MBP be a good choice or should I get the 15″? The 13″ is a bit less expensive.

ModeratorFor me personally the 15″ is the smallest I’d get. But I am 52 with matching eyesight (and glasses).
