    Yes, and as there are 12 roots plus major and minor scales, and any number of tempo adjustments that can throw these off, it is MUCH easier to use software to give you the root key to work from if mixing in key is your aim. Using software to save you keying your tracks on a piano is nothing to be ashamed of, as long as you continue to use your ears as well.

    I’ve been djin since the mid nineties and I’ve always mixed in key. It never had a name but it was always part of mixing and blending. That’s the style of djing I’ve had and will always have and guess what its just got a whole lot easier to organize my tracks.

    I think every1 misses the point with laptop djin and the skill sets around it. To me its organisation (no more searching through record boxes and cd pouches), cost effectiveness (good turntables/cdjs and mixers have always been way expensive) and the ability to play any set near enough anywhere. Mixing in key gives u options and that isn’t cheating really is it
