Everyone starts somewhere! Many people use sample CDs containing drum sets, synth stabs etc of the type of music they want to make. It’s good shortcut to get there or thereabouts.

Throwing a bag of spanners into a food processor while stamping on a cat is the preferred method.

You will need some cind of computer and software.
I would suggest a iMac or Mac pro and 2 large screens
But you can manage with a Macbook pro 15″……
Then you nead Software I suggest Reason and Ableton Live
    And a MIDI keyboard

But to start with you can use a PC some more simple cheaper program like fruity loops and your computer keyboard.

You don’t need to have a Mac to produce, your operating system doesn’t really make a difference. But grabbing a Midi keyboard is generally a good idea.

Dubstep is usually between 140 to 150 BPM. You create the signature “wobble bass” by routing an LFO to the envelope of one or more of your oscillators, which is then synced to the BPM of the song. In Native Instruments’ Massive, you can sync the LFO so that it “wobbles” on whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, etc. Which oscillators you should use, however, is completely up to you 🙂

i always see producing dubstep like you produce hip hop or rap. the beats sound relatively similar but there is a huge diference between the dubstep and rap. rap focuses on the vocals being guided by a certain beat something with big bass and strong claps- Eminem, dr. dre etc. dubstep keeps the rap feel but adds a huge technical variety to it. instead of those violins making your head jam then the first kick hits your brain that lets you know your que to rap along, you hear this mechanical bassline build up, drop then an insane crash of robotic noises, wobbly bass, all the wile hi hats and symbals are tearing away at your earlobes and the guys voice sounds like a rap star from the future.- Excision, Datsik Etc.
to keep it simple all i did to learn how to make dubstep was to listen to rap and dubstep and listen to the similarities. the beat is the simplest thing to create from then on you can put your mad basstech skills to the max as long as your vibe is right.
let me know if this helps, it helped me

What you do is you take 2-step garage, and then you add bass. And then some more bass.

You need production software commonly called a DAW (digital audio workstation). Almost everyone producing dubstep these days uses the VST plugin Massive by Native Instruments. In the world of production most people will tell you making dubstep isn’t that hard compared to other genres.
