    Very simple.. Craigslist. Actually, I think one of my friends that went to church told them when they were having a festival or something. But craigslist is probably one of the easiest ways to get out there.

    I was in the right place at the right time. I was working in a club doing something else entirely, management knew I liked to DJ, the resident DJ fell out with because money and they asked me if I would do it.
    That wad in 1997 and I’ve not had many weekends off since 🙂

    My friend was a DJ so I started helping him carrying his vinyl crates to the Club, my brother was also a DJ so I helped him too. They needed breaks to go to toilet or other reasons and I took over the TT’s. soon enough I was playing alongside them and eventually on my own. had a long break like 20 years or so(playing in Bands and producing music) 😀 then a Friend who was organizing an event asked if I wanted to play again for fun (was november 2010) and I’ve been DJ’ing almost every weekend since then.

    First gig ever was a party for our high school class when I was 14 (1977).

    First paid gig was at the opening of a bar/bistro/dancing that belonged to a friend of a friend.

    First pro/resident gig is a longer story. Saw an add in a national newspaper in Holland, asking for DJs (german and english speaking) for work in Europe. A phone number to call before saturday evening 20:00. I called sunday evening at 20:45. Got invited for an audition in Club Juliana’s in Amsterdam the next day at 16:00. Got a call at 20:00 I was hired and to get ready to leave in a month to a place yet to be determined. Got a call that thursday afternoon if I could make it to Essen, Germany by friday afternoon :-D. Packed my stuff, told my daytime job boss to shove it and had my dad drive me to Germany. Got 1 day of hand-over and was solo on saturday night.

    The rest, as they say, is history.

    First gig: Surprise party for my brother’s 16th birthday.

    First paid gig: Year-end soccer banquet.

    First gig once I became a ‘proper’ DJ: Fundraising dance at the local youth centre.

    First paid gig once I became a ‘proper’ DJ: New Years Bash.

    Was just thinking, how did you all get your first gig? Was it for someone you know? Or did you take the plunge and advertise yourself?

    In DJ world its very essential you know the right people,
    My first paid gig is this girl working at the PR at the club, my cousin know her, introduced me to her, i sales-pitched her and got the gig on the weekend, Friday i think it was a Halloween theme event if I’m not mistaking

    Another one is if you have some kind of type of Event Organizer (EO) or DJ Label, try to make contact with them and ask if you can join them,
    Most of our local club event is arranged by EO or DJ Label,
