ParticipantWhoops. That should have read ‘Curve’. Proofreading is a virtue…

MemberI was put on the spot when I first used them. Luckily the other DJ loaned me his rekordboxed USB. The hardest thing to get used to was no cue point jumping and limited looping.

ParticipantThanks, Arbite. That gives me something to go on.

ParticipantModern CDJs has cuepoint jumping and looping! My Denon S3700 has 3 hotstart/auto loops and 1 loop that is set a/b manualy as well as the normal cue. All can be set in memory. The new SC3900 has 4 hotcue and one manual loop.
CDJ2000/900 also has loops and hotcues that can be set in memory….The big difference it that there is no Syncbutton so you have to beatmatch by ear using the pitchslider and pitch bend by using jogg or pitchbendbuttons (Pio does not have pitchbend buttons but Denon and other brands has that)
So if you want to be able to play on CDJs you could practice on any controller by uncheck the sync and snap in the software.
Also you have a much smaller display on CDJs that could be frustrating in the beginning…..March 14, 2012 at 8:52 am #16723B.B. Koning
ParticipantHess, you are my hero of the day, minus the crappy Metallica song. 🙂
Seriously, you have helped me here in a big way.
I definitely want to steer away from that sync button on all counts (no pun intended).
Thanks!
BTW, big thumbs up for the advice in the other thread. I owe you a beer. Just not anything available in a standard supermarket in America. I would not subject you to the unnecessary torture.

MemberWhat do you mean by using CDJs? are you running them using USB drives or CD? coz if you use them using Midi / HID.. In my opinion, it wasnt that hard to use using HID using traktor.. but using CDs is awhole new story. you dont have the benefit of waveforms and all, and specially the sync which in my opinion should be ONLY used in case of OMG emergency situations.

Agreed. Sync is no no. I would be running them using CDs.

MemberThen if you plan on using CDs then it would be a tad harder compared to running controllers since you can actually glance at waveforms, not to mention BPMs.

It depends on what CDJ you are talking about!
Denon SC39000 and most Pio CDJs do have waveforms in the display!
But CDs are different because you will have to change CD almost every time you want a new song
and you can not make playlists in CDs (you can on the other hand make a playlist in for example excell
and print or have your lapptop with you…..March 14, 2012 at 11:30 am #16740Marco Roa Frias
Memberwell what he said……

ParticipantYes, I know that some models can use USB. I was looking at some CDJ 400s that can do this. Low end, but cheap compared to the 1000s. The reason I say CDs is that I am interested in going at it somewhat old school.
Controllers are cooler, but some of the clubs I go to are still stuck in their ways about what you can spin with.
But it will be nice to have that ability. It still seems silly to waste an entire CD on one song though, and be restricted to such a limited playlist. But whatever. The point is to get a well rounded education.
Thanks for the replies.

ParticipantDenon S1200’s are IMO a bit better than CDJ400
Because it is a bit smaller, has more functions and reads USBs much faster.Just so you know 🙂
