I noticed they don’t all have that. They do seem to have a gain knob on the top panel. The only reason I can think of is that the level being put out by RCA is lower than that of balanced (XLR/Jack) ports. So if you connect from RCA to XLR on the speaker, you could very well not be hot enough. The switch would take care of that. When in doubt, take the lowest setting 😀

Thanks Vintage but are you sure? The user manual has the following to say:

This switch boosts input sensitivity. Setting it to -6 dB rather than the standard +4 dB setting boosts the input level 10 dB. For the widest dynamic range in live applications, we recommend setting the switch to +4 dB. Recommendation: Using a professionell mixer, the input sensitivity should be set to +4 dB. This lets you take advantage of the system’s full dynamic range and helps to avoid system overloads. Using a signal with a lower output level the input sensitivity should be set to -6 dB.

Is my DDJ-SX considered to be a ‘professionell mixer’? Does the DDJ-SX have a ‘lower output level’ than +4dB? Obviously as a mobile DJ I want maximum volume but not if it risks system overloads!

Also, I should add that I run XLR cables from my DDJ-SX to the inputs on the subwoofer and then Speakon connectors from the sub to the satellite speakers…

    Hey Marcel,

Yes, I am sure. It’s exactly as the manual says. If you are using PRO audio gear (essentially if it has balanced XLR or Jack outputs) then you need to set it to the +4dB. Meaning the systems knows it’s getting a sufficiently hot signal to work with.

If you user non-pro grade gear, the ones with only RCA outputs, then you get a lot lower output. To compensate for this you can set the switch to -6dB, providing a 10dB boost to the relatively low RCA output signal, bringing it to the same level as the pro gear sends out through the balanced outputs.

So, listen to the manual, set it to +4dB and rest assured that you will have plenty of signal to drive the amps to the recommended levels without blowing anything up.

    Greetinx.

Thanks for taking the trouble to help me with this one, +4dB it is then!
