KeymasterHey and welcome to the forums!
Don’t worry it is never too late 😉
As for speakers and such, take a look at our PA guide also, here is Part 1:
http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2013/04/beginners-guide-to-pa-systems-part-1-basics/Also free for your pleasure 😉
As for a name, this is something personal.
Try to get something where you can easily get an internet domain, what is original and what you like. Then ask some co-workers (not friends) for opinions. As friends tend to play along more easy and you want honest opinions…But above all: Have Fun!

ParticipantHello PhoneixG!
Another fourtysomething year old with a Denon MC3000 and TP2 standing up to be counted. We may need our own sub-forum 😉 Post back on how the Alto’s work out – I’m on the fence about springing for a pair or saving up further for Yamaha DXR’s.

Welcome G !
As in your name, maybe you can pick up something cool from the game you play ? some cool skills name maybe? or some l33t guild name perhaps? then u can modify it a bit to your liking, just a thoughtJuly 10, 2013 at 11:58 am #42098Graham Parker
ParticipantHi djrizki,
Thanks for the advice, still trying to come up with something original though. Early days though, so still time.

First kids gig over, it went fairly well although there’s lots I need to improve on. I learnt loads from doing this freebie one for a friends daughter’s 10th Birthday.
NEVER let kids get hold of the mic, or at least limit it to a 30sec slot.
Also, they seem to dance more to the party tracks such as Cha Cha Slide and Follow the Leader, rather than some of the latest tunes that my 10 year daughter enjoys. Maybe just the party thing.
Got a request from one of the parents to play a tune from her iPhone. I was so glad I’d packed the correct cables, plugged into line 1 on the Denon MC3000 and job done. Sweet, another happy customer. It was a great learning experience, and something I’m sure I can improve on.
Gonna keep practising……. 🙂July 10, 2013 at 12:40 pm #42099DJ Vintage

Nope, you got it right the first time … NEVER! Same goes for aspiring drunks at weddings (i.e. most guest after dinner).
The only people that get the mike are the customer, someone directly appointed by the customer, the wedding planner/best man/organiser and that is about it. No amount of “Can I please say something trough the mic?” is gonna pry it away from me. You can tell me the message you want conveyed and I will do the announcement (if I deem it appropriate, if not, talk to the customer, etx., first).
It’s ridiculous what people can do/say when they hold a mic. If, for some unclear reason, they do get hold of the mic, be sure to have your fingers on the MIC ON/OFF button.
Good to hear it was a succes.
Greetinx,
C.

ParticipantWelcome from another noob. Just starting, and you’re providing music ed to children – I look up to you already 😉
Here’s a link from another dj site (not nearly as good as this one, of course), article on how to choose a name. Not very definitive, but food for thought.

Hope it helpsJuly 12, 2013 at 10:56 pm #42150Graham Parker
