djtechtools has tons of overlays and midi maps for the s2 with alot of mods available as well. if your looking to go down the contoller route id say youve made a solid choice and should hop on it.

First, a little general advice… I always recommend not buying “intro” gear. You’ll get the hang of dj’ing on a controller quicker than you think and then be looking for something new right away, so why waste the money on intro gear? Leap right into something a little higher end.

Now to your specific question, I haven’t personally used the S2, but from everything I’ve heard it is a well-designed piece of kit, and at the current promo price, is one hell of a deal. That said, a part of that is still the cost of the software, so if you already own Traktor, you’ll be paying for it again.

    Good luck!

I agree with DJ Oddity get the advance gear you need now(depending what type of mixing you want to do scratch or controllerism) I have the Vestax Typhoon and kicking myself in the ass since aits very basic controller now Im going to spend money to get the Traktor X1 and the F1 to fully use Traktor Pro 2.When I could of held of and just bought the Traktor S4 .This would have given me more creative options in mixing. The typhoon in itself you cant get too creative your limited to things even using Traktor Pro 2 I have to go back to the computer to function certain features because the controller is so limited.I will own you SOON S4!The S2 would be a good pick up but I would save more for the S4.

The combo you suggest (S2 + Maschine Mikro) would take care of any shortfalls the S2 alone could have. The S4 is a great purchase also, and you could hold on until you saved more and purchase this, however another option would be to see what the new Kontrol F1 could do for you! It looks like it could be a great compliment to the S2!

I haven’t used the S2, but I have it’s big brother, the S4, and it’s definitely worth the purchase, save the money if you can.
You can learn on an advanced kit the same things you can learn on an intro kit, the only difference is you’ve invested money to ensure that when your skill increases, you don’t have to go and buy new gear to complement that, you’ve already got the hardware in front of you that is only matched by your imagination.

Hats off to ya though for using Traktor with a keyboard and mouse, I couldn’t do it LOL
