MemberMaybe a good controller to start with but I’ve never used it. Vestax isn’t a well known builder of midi controllers, I’d also check out some other brands like for instance Numark. It’s the same with software, check out de different possibilities, I’m a Traktor fan, but maybe other software suits you better.

MemberThis is a tough one, I mean digital is probably the most “technical” form of DJing because it requires Computer, Controller & Software, whereas if you went with a straight forward CDJ & 2 channel mixer option you can just put a CD in, hit play and you’re off and running.
I would say, download the free trial version of the software. I would recommend either Traktor or Serato as these are the two most commonly used and it will be easier for you to find help on blogs and other DJ’s that can give you advice.
Secondly, I highly recommend Phil’s “How to Digital DJ Fast” series of tutorials, they’re absolute gold.
Last, I can fully appreciate where you’re coming from, I’m totally self taught and didn’t really know any DJ’s at the time to point me in the right direction, so there was a lot of trial and error and times when I thought where it just wasn’t going to happen but if you have the passion and stick with it it all comes with time and practice.
Oh and don’t be afraid to ask lots questions no matter how basic you think they are. There’s heaps of DJing forums and DDJT is a great place with guys like D-Jam, Softcore & Phil with heaps of experience who are always happy to offer advice.
Good luck !

WoW !!! Thanks for your time , I am watching “How to Digital DJ Fast”, just getting out there and getting my feet wet. So frustrating when you have all these ideas of how you want to mix, intergrate, and play with sounds but lacking in the tech department ! uuurrrghhhhhh , thanks again for your time 🙂

Well I’ve never seen somebody play with a Vestax midi controller. I only know Vestax as an turntable builder aimed for mainly hip-hop dj’s. Correct me if I’m wrong! Maybe it only looks that way from a European point of view, don’t know how it’s like in other parts of the world?

MemberVestax made the VCI-100 and VCI-300, some of the best known midi controllers out there. The VCI-100 is the most-modified controller of all time, from what I have seen.
But in terms of learning what everything does, I would definitely download a copy of Digitial DJ Home and play around with the controls to get the idea of what everything does.

I live in Europe and before the S4 generation, majority of (good) digital DJs were using the VCI-100. One of the best controllers of it’s time.. but time trampled it.

MemberAight oke, well then theirs quiet a big difference compared to the situation down here. The biggest retailers aren’t selling Vestax whatsoever. I found one, that sells 4 types of Vestax controllers all against reduced prices… I’ll open a new topic about this, so we can compare the situation in different parts of the world.
