Using effects might be a good way to differentiate and transition the tracks without having two really loud tracks turn into a wall of noise.

Here’s an idea. Set the fader in the middle, with the volume on the new track turned all the way down. Then, start the filter on the track that’s playing to slowly strip out the base, while turning up the volume on the new track. When the volume on the new track is all the way up, the bass on the old track should be all the way down, and then you can mix into the new song without as much overlap.

    Hope this helps.

Of course, the trusty “backspin” on the track you are mixing out of is another tried and true way of getting out of an awkward mix.

Sometimes songs just don’t fit into each other.

Using effects is one way, cutting a lot of frequencies on the incoming track and then replacing the highs/mids/lows on the running track one after the other also works sometimes (usually becomes pretty messy though), or try to just cross-fade with filters.

Also, using a short part of a third track as a bridge between the two tracks you actually want to mix togheter works for me a lot of the time.

Generally speaking, this is hard to answer without exactly knowing what tracks you’d like to mix.

Thank you both for your help. I am going to try both ways. I understand that some songs don’t work together. I am only using two decks. As far as which a songs I am playing its usually with trance songs of around 132 bpms or higher. They have lots of sounds going on and I am just trying to keep that same energy going with the next track.
