    2 Tips:
    1. Learn to nudge 🙂
    2. If unsure if slower or faster, go slower way too much and adjust up again

Check out ellaskins on youtube, he has several tools to help you learn to beatmatch. But in the end it all comes down to practice and training your ears. But you will certainly improve if you try.

If a tune gets slighty out of sync (aka drifting as you said) you can nudge the jogwheel on your controller by touching it on the side and slowly nudge it forward (faster) or backward (slower) to bring the tune back in sync.

Interesting tips Terry, but I always find myself nudging the next incoming track faster if im in awe which what tunes is faster or slower

Ah in time you get the nudge of it 😉

Good EQing also helps, lowering the bass on the incoming track and having it at a slightly lower volume will make any adjustments via nudging much less noticeable.
Using key lock can also help mask speed changes, never had that luxury in the vinyl days.

I guess it just takes time. I’ve certainly improved already. beatmatching is great fun, don’t like that sync button. I have found if I beatmatch by ear, I always know where i am and really get into the rhythm! Loving it 🙂

    Cheers guys

Remember…this is totally a fun idea to just try at home…if it starts drifting…start scratching :p (I don’t own a controller…yet….but I’d try it just for fun).

Good info though, I’ll be sure to come back to this thread because as of now…I’m nudging via the ‘←’ ‘→’ on the keyboard 😀

Nudging is the secret of manual beatmatching.

Back in my vinyl days I would be lightly running my thumb along the dots on the side of the platter of my 1200 to slightly slow the record without changing the pitch. I’d run my finger in circles on the label of the vinyl to speed it up.

Riding the pitch is another trademark of going manual. On CDJs and midi you can also use the + and – pitch bend buttons, as well as the side of the jogwheel.

It just takes practice. Start with simple beats and move up to larger. You should play doubles and work to keep them on one another, or play two simple beat records for a while and practice adjusting.
