I’m still new to the game as well, but from what I’ve heard others say, it comes down to personal preference, and it is a good idea to read the controller guide from this site in order to get a feel for the features that each one has.

From what I know (which still isn’t too much ATM) most of the entry controllers are pretty similar in features. Personally, I have the DDJ-SB. I went with it because I happened to find one of the limited red ones, and I liked the color for it being the same price as the standard.

I am new to the whole DJing

Just like you stated you new to DJ ing,

The only thing that I don’t like about the DDJ-SB is that it doesn’t have many In and Outputs.

So why you need so many Ins and Outs for anyway ?
The one that the SB had it served it purpose, more than enough

I would not consider the Gemini, they have huge quality issues.

I am using a Terminal Mix 8 as my main controller and love it. The TM2 is a bit downtuned but I can recommend it. You can still activate slicer modes, samplers etc. and it works extremely well with Serato DJ.

The DDJ-SB is more of a beginner controller and I would consider the reloop Beatmix series the better ones.

Terminal Mix 2 running Serato for me, no major issues to speak of. It’s great 🙂

Add the Numark MixTrack Pro 2 and the Denon MC2000 to the “pretty good first controllers list”, I’d say.

    G2V is a tank.
DDJ-SB is amateur. Not enough features.
Terminal Mix 2 is pretty solid.

If you want Serato go with the Reloop. If you want Virtual DJ go with the Gemini. If you want Traktor it’s a toss up between the Reloop and Gemini.

As Terry said, there are/have been plenty of issues with the Gemini controllers. So not recommended, especially if you are just starting. Hard to tell when something is wrong if you are still figuring out what is right 😀

MC2000 and DDJ-SB are both reliable starter controllers that have plenty of features, imho, for a starting DJ.

Your starting controller should last you between 1 and 2 years if you plan to move ahead, depending on the amount of time you are willing to stick into your new hobby. Too many features are just confusing in the beginning, I think.
The Pioneer and Denon will both have a somewhat decent resell value when you do decide to upgrade in the future.

You can try Mixvibes Cross free without a controller attached, so you can check that out while waiting for the big sale.

And as things stand currently, the only controllers I’d really recommend with Traktor are the NI ones (S2-S4-S8). Traktor is clearly on a path where their software is best suited for their own controllers.

And be sure to check out the review on the new Algoriddim DJ software out for Mac now.

Just my two cents, as usual
