KeymasterHey and welcome to our community!
I would check if you really already do anything that is possible with the controller, or if I may be blunt you try to compensate some training things with better gear, which in the end will not work.
I DJed professionally with a TM4 for a long time until I upgraded to a TM8 and trust me those controllers are not the issue… or it might just be GAS on your side (GAS = gear acquisition syndrome)

ParticipantHey Terry,
I defo have GAS!
I know the gear isn’t the problem…it’s me. I’ve been giving up too easily, not learning the software etc. As soon as I started using Serato ITCH with the Numark V7’s I got lazy, expected the software to do everything for me. In the end I failed because I never put the effort in.
I really am starting from scratch this time, beat matching everything manually as opposed to hitting the sync button every time and I’m starting to get much more enjoyment using this £100 controller than I ever did with the other 2 sets of gear I had (Because of me, taking the time to learn this time, rather than the gear being at fault)

ModeratorHi Hayward, welcome to the forums.
I’d hold off on buying the SX2 for a while, until you have found your workflow (and proven to yourself you can actually stick it out). By the time practice and perhaps a few courses (How To Digital DJ Fast is definitely worth the money, will keep you on your toes for 6 weeks and might be just what the “doctor” orderded”) have gone by, you might want things in a controller that lead you in another direction. And while a used SX2 can be sold, I personally would stick with the MTP2 til you know if and how you want to progress.
Good luck.

ParticipantThanks for the welcome guys 🙂
Hi Vintage, how you doing?
I did get the Digital DJ Fast course, really wasn’t feeling it, didn’t really give me anything I didn’t already know. Holding off for the Masterclass though, I’ll be on that as soon as it’s out. (Chances are I’ll get all the courses eventually)
I am loving things right now though 🙂 I’m away to go through all the tunes I have right now and make some mixtapes, trying to use every single tune that I have (Hence, I got the Mixtape course…which is blowing my mind) Thanks for the advice though, I am going to hold off, quite enjoying this little controller!
Also trying to convert all of my Vinyl to .mp3’s, which is damn good fun, but a looooooooong process.
Just out of interest, what is everyone else using Controller/Software wise?

ModeratorMC6000mk1 (sold waiting for mk2, which I haven’t bought yet), iDJ Pro, SC2900s (sold) with X1600 (also sold), DDJ-SX (gold edition), DN-S2000, Numark NDX500s and some odd bits and bobs LOL.
About ripping vinyl, my suggestion is to spend some time trying to track down digital versions online. Those are usually better and save you a boatload of trouble. You’ll end up ripping only the ones that are unique to your collection and are not available online in a digital version. I had well over 600 12’s and albums (after getting rid of the rest of my collection) to deal with and ended up ripping maybe 20-25. The rest wasn’t worth it or I could source them online.

ParticipantHeHe, you have a fair few bits of kit then!
I was thinking about that, mainly cos it’s easier, the few I did look for before I couldn’t find (It’s all Trance/Hard Trance from 1998 – 2002) Managed to find some of my really old Hardcore records in CD form though.
You got any recommendations for places to use for Music? I’ve really only been using Beatport & Trackitdown. Before had I was using them to discover, then buy from Amazon due them being half price.

ModeratorWell, frankly usenet could be a good option.
I consider downloading a digital copy of a track you already bought and paid for a legal action. It seems ridiculous to me to have to pay twice for a track just because it’s stored on a different medium. I am sure the small print says different, but hey … it’s small print. You have paid the artist for the right to play the track and if you play out you or the venue pays again to have it played in public, so I’d say we are doing what we need to do to support producing artists.
