Well the redwaves are still the “entry level” headphones from numark. Many parts are made from plastic and sadly so is the locking thing in the earcup. So the adapter in the earcup is molded in plastic, if that has somehow cracked internally… that might cause your problem. I have the Zomo HD-1200 which look very similar and while I love them to death for their sound, I expect up to a year lifetime not more.

I also have a pair of Reloop RHP-20s and now these rock. Everything that moves or connects is aluminium. The connector on the earcup is a mini-XLR metal construction and these headphones seem to take a beating no matter what I throw at them. Still they are cheaper than the high-end Pioneers, A&H or Sennheiser. So “bang for buck” wise I do not know any better high-end DJ headphones.
You can see Phil’s review of them here:

I know what you mean, and I’ve found my perfect dj headphones with the Stanton DJ Pro 2000. It costs under 70 pounds and it lasts a LONG time.

I’ve tride a few different brands and designs and my Sennheiser HD 25-1 ii’s are my go-to ‘phones. Not the cheapest (although definitely not the most expensive and you can find great deals on the web and ebay) but they have taken so much abuse and still work and sound 100% after about 2.5 years.

I agree! I break phones every 6-12 month (or I used to when I gigged 4 times a week). The HD-25s are pretty indestructible if they work for you. We always talk about the cables and hinges in our reviews as this is where you’ll have issues normally.

I’ve had my HDJ2000s for about 2 and a 1/2 years now…not a single thing wrong with them…other than the fact i have had to replace the cable because of my dog…but thats a totally different story.

People say the HDJs are too expensive and that they break easily…YES they are expensive…but being all metal is going to cost a lot more than plastic…and i have yet to see ppl actually break these damn things.

So u can pay 100 bucks every 6 months or just spend the big investment and reap the rewards of not having to breakin new headphones, having to search for something better than the last ones u bought etc!

I’ve had my Technics RP-DJ1200 (black/purple version) for about 16 or so years now, admittedly they are taped up in places and the cups are well worn but they’ve never, ever let me down at a gig or home. At the time, for me, it was a straight choice between the Technics or the HD25’s, both of which are superb IMHO.

These were my first “real” DJ headphones. Very decent for the price. I found I outgrew them when I had to play in some of the louder (read: badly designed) venues.

I’ve been a radio DJ longer than a bar DJ and I started out with Sennheiser HD280’s….and never stopped. I ADORE these things and they have taken one hell of a beating. I’ve had occasion to try out all types of styles and models, I’d buy another pair of these in a heartbeat, if I’m ever able to finally destroy these that is.
