I have tried Traktor but its just too much for me. Serato, Itch……. not yet, but I don’t think so. Maybe on the day I will afford the NS6! I have never understood why people love iTunes, its just not for me. I know this is crazy but I love Jet Audio, I manage my playlists there and also tag all my music with it. You can’t integrate it into your DJ software like iTunes, but am not complaining. Just my 2 cents.
I’ve never heard of Jet Audio! Gonna have a look.

ParticipantI started with VDJ up to vers 7, will always love it. For work I had to learn the ropes with Serato SL and I kinda dig it.. I stayed away from it for years because I didnt have the gear to warrant learning it (AND because it always seemed to follow the ‘all the cool people are doing it’ ideal). In a week or so I’ll be running with ITCH’s four-deck version.. also have Abelton and MixMeister Fusion, both of which I’ve been procrastinating with learning

Your assessment is the most honest I’ve read about Traktor. It is exactly how I feel about it, too.
I use Virtual DJ Pro 7, like you. I recently bought a Vestax TR-1. It came with Traktor LE. Traktor has cool effects, but you are right. It looks too difficult to pick up quickly. Also, the functionality is limited with LE and you really can’t get a taste of the whole thing the way it’s presented to you. NI is not doing a good job at trying to entice you to buy the full product.
I will purchase Traktor Pro soon. But only because I have a few DJ partners that use TP and TSP. Sometimes we do gigs together and I imagine it will be easier for us to work together if all of our softwares look the same. Plus it’s not a bad idea to be well rounded. Also, I’d hate to not use the discount to Traktor Pro that came with my Vestax TR-1.
I won’t ever leave Virtual DJ, because it does what it’s supposed to. Extreme GUI customization. Easy MIDI controller implementation. Easy Library access and organization (don’t need iTunes). Rock solid performance.

Participanti started with virtual dj 4 ( a long time ago) im up to 7 now. ive tried traktor but couldnt get the hang of it so im back to vdj. im a hip-hop dj so vdj seems easier for me than trakor. trakor seems more like a musical(chopping, aranging) type software where as vdj is for straight cutting, scratching, blending hip-hop djing. just my oppinion

MemberStarted on VDJ and learned the basics, Traktor came with my Omni control so i tried that but kept drifting back to VDJ, my mate went on an Ableton course so i thought i’d better try that out or get left behind, and with a lot of help off Emma Partnow from here i learned enough to hold my head above water.
I absolutely LOVE Ableton, it mapped in to the omnicontrol like a dream, id LOVE to try it on an APC20… but DJ sets in Ableton is all about preparation so this kinda takes the fun out of it for me… if i want to lay a technically perfect mix, Ableton wins hands down…But i kinda like the sound of those little mistakes that creep in when you wing a set on the fly, where you didnt quite mix out or in just fast enough, where the beats are just slightly out and i correct them
I like that if you listen you can hear the errors, it proves that its me, a fallible human being is doing all the hard work. i think it makes the mix just that little bit better.. yeah i stuffed that bit up and held it together just fine!
So VDJ still holds number 1 position hereSeptember 14, 2011 at 3:21 pm #7440Benny Mackney

I think more of us did that than would admit it 😉 I’m completely legit now. Using TP2 which came with my TKS4. I think Traktor is a lot more powerful but it isn’t quite 100% stable (it actually seems to be degrading in performance, which is worrying). VDJ was so stable and smooth that I could be on Facebook and IRC discussing my DJ stream when I had a break between mixing. I really wish Traktor didn’t have that issue, it would be a 100% win for it then.

So VDJ still holds number 1 position hereI Still Mess Up in Ableton on Occasions 🙂
I have the ‘Next Audio’ to Begin on the ‘Next Bar’; so 4 Beats Time; but if I am Not Concentrating; or ‘With It’; when I press ‘Play’ or ‘Scene Launch’; it Will Begin On The Next Bar; but it May Not Be The Bar I Wanted It To Start On 🙂September 15, 2011 at 7:52 am #7475Anonymous

I do this a lot when I arrange a track in Ableton by recording a ‘live’ playthrough. Haha.
Still, I see his point. DJing in Ableton means you either have categorised sets (i.e. all your electro house in a set, all your dubstep in a set) , pre-built/playlist sets or a set with your whole library (how many scenes could Ableton have? Is this even possible?). Either way, it’s not great for flexibility.

MemberFirst exposure to DJing whatsoever was the original Traktor. Then got Live v2, recently have switched to Traktor Pro.
Live is still my composition software, and if I was doing Live PA or attempting more of a live remix style of doing things I would continue using it. However, the type of music I want to be doing involves a lot of genre and tempo hopping which, though not impossible in Live, is painful. Not nearly as painful, however, as warping every single track before you can use it. When most of the music you use tends to wander a bit in the tempo department, it;s just excruciating having to take a couple hours to warp a few tracks to play around with for a new promo set when you’re inspired NOW.
So, my decision was to switch to Traktor, continue using my APC40 for now, and just learn to beatmatch manually. That way I can deal with any weirdness I might run into with on the fly. So far it’s been WAY more fun. Plus, I’m a pretty visual guy and Traktor/my APC with Traktor just look great.
