Hey Darryl,
I have used the Twitch with Serato DJ 1.3 this past week. I have to say that generally i am very happy with the performance.
I was worried that Serato DJ would be CPU intensive like Traktor but its not. It runs just as smoothly as ITCH did. The mapping is pretty much the same, with the major differences being the layout of the FX section and the new manual looping mode (accessed by pressing loop roll twice).
The sound output is a LITTLE bit higher than it was with ITCH (one of the big complaints was the low volume output). However I use a ART Power Mix 3 amplifer so this offsets this. But I did notice a significant change with the TRIM levels. I can now raise the TRIM knob to about 1 or 2 o clock before it starts to redline, whereas before it would redline on 10 or 11 oclock in ITCH). In addition, i think the QUALITY of the sound is a little bit better with Serato DJ.
I like the layout of Serato DJ compared to ITCH. ITCH was good to use but honestly the interface did not look professional to me. I was almost embarrassed when people looked at it. Sertao DJ looks more professional and i like the layout options. You can make it look like ITCH or like Scratch Live, and have as many bells/whistles on screen as you want.
Lastly the new FX are really cool. Coming from Traktor last year I thought that ITCH had “ok” effects but not great. Now with single or multiple fx options and a boatload of new fx (in both the free Wolf -pack and $19USD Back-pack) it is really starting to feel like a complete package.
SLIP mode is also great, but now have to find a secondary controller to map it to (don’t like using the keyboard for it). What is cool is that HOT CUES also work in slip mode, i am not sure if even Traktor does this? It allows for some cool remix-controllerism stuff to happen out of the box with Serato DJ and the Twtich!
Overall, I really like Twitch with Serato DJ. You do have to get used to some of the new mappings (am looking to label the new options with tape), but it feels more fuller and professional than before. Add in Serato Video and you have a comprehensive package that is hard to find elsewhere.
I also think that Twitch with Serato DJ can finally lay to rest the fact that only TRAKTOR can be used with “controllerism” in mind. I love traktor for what it is, but for those that want the feel of a controllerist setup without the hassle of mapping and labelling that comes with it, your option is here!

Participanthey man! Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I am really looking forward to the multi-effects as well. Good to hear the remix on the fly capabilities are better as well.
Play on!

ParticipantNo worries Darryl, I do find it cool that Slip mode works with the hot cues, the slicer, loops and loop rolls along with “scratching” on the touch strips. Gives it a real fluid feel and can be used for some very cool effects. Although for someone who is a hot cue junkie like me, that means having to monitor if slip mode is on or not.
its also cool how they managed to map 3 fx’s per channel into the tiny Twitch! Granted, its probably its most glaring weakness as it takes some time to get used to and involves switching fx banks.
Oh, i forgot to mention the Sp-6 player. Its now accessible by hitting the HOT CUE button twice, and with the 8 pads per deck on the twitch, gives you a lot of control! Now if only you could control sample volume on the twitch!
Don’t forget to check for updated drivers on the novation wesbite as well!
Am looking forward to gigging with it this weekend!
