Wouldn’t have thought I’d actually enjoy some of that music (not my genre, so much so, that I didn’t even know what to expect, lol)! The first 5 tracks I enjoyed, then after that I felt like it was getting a little bit trancier in some of the breakdowns etc., I didn’t enjoy it as much strictly musically from that point on. But still, nice to get some exposure to different genres especially in such a well-executed manner. Some of those transitions I played multiple times because they were SO smooth! 😀

Track 10 reminded me a lot of Droplex 🙂

And regarding the length of the set: I like to stick around the 30min mark, but as you noted on my mix that makes me burn through tracks quicker. I personally figure that makes it more interesting for the audience. But I guess that’s just different strokes for different people 🙂

Hamburg style prog is a hybrid of techno, house, psytrance and prog trance so I can see how some of it gets too trancey for you. For people in the psytrance community it gets way too housey… to each their own. Glad you enjoyed the darker end of it though, I would consider that the best part.

If I ever put up an all vinyl set I’ll definitely let you know, it’s usually hard techno, minimal techno and acid techno. I’m also working on some house at the moment, deep, funky and disco, if you like that sort of thing.

The audience does tend to like quicker mixes and more tracks but I like to let the tracks breathe a bit more, build an atmosphere and an energy. Different strokes as you said.

Anyway, thanks for checking it out. I’ll keep my eye out for your next mix, I think you’re doing some good shit and headed in a good direction.

Sounds like your are kinda walking a thin line with your music choice, is that a big scene? And is that Hamburg as in Hamburg, Germany?
I definitely enjoyed the darker and more minimal tracks, and PLEASE do inform me if you do such a Techno set, would be very into that to see how you mix it and because you sure as hell could enlighten me in regards to some of the classics of the genre 🙂

Hope ur enjoying spinning digital and I will check out your next set, always open to some new music. And thanks a lot for the positive feedback, means a lot coming from someone with as much experience as you have and motivates me to keep improving!

    Have a great week, cheers!

No it’s not that big of a scene but I like to spread the music as best I can and I usually get a good response from most people. I have a full time job that pays the bills so I can play whatever the hell I want to whomever will listen. The majority of the scene is in Brazil, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Mexico, etc. It’s one of the many sub genres of psytrance and so it’s part of the psytrance scene.

Yes that’s Hamburg as in Germany. The sub genre basically came to be from many of the great artists in the Hamburg, Germany area and is starting to spread. A lot of good stuff is starting to come out of South America.

I’ll need new needles before I record a vinyl set and that’s kind of taken a back seat since I moved into digital. Digital is a lot of fun. I really enjoy the greater accessibility of the music as opposed to vinyl and without that I wouldn’t be playing the music I play today, which I really love. I could have gone the cd route I guess but I was pretty stubborn about vinyl until my mixer crapped out on me. I got the Numark N4 so it could double as a mixer for my turntables and give me a chance to try digital (I believe it’s the way of the future).

Yeah, you’re an ambassador of that kind of music for sure. I dabble in lots of genres but I had NO idea what Hamburg style prog was – now I do 😀 Where are you based then? I’m from Hamburg so it’s even cooler to find out about all this, because I was totally unaware of this scene right in front of my doorstep!

No rush with the vinyl set, but I’ll make sure to listen to it 100%. Glad to hear you are enjoying the digital side of things, I wish everybody coming from the vinyl background was so open-minded. Too many just dismiss it as stupid button pushing where the technology does everything for you (that being said I have no doubt, that starting out on vinyl is a LOT harder than it’s on the digital systems nowadays, so no disrespect).

I’m based in the U.S. I don’t know anyone else in my area who plays. Why play something everyone else plays? Check out Neelix, he’s from Hamburg and plays more to the techno side of the style and is one of, if not the main creator of this style.

Track selection was and is the most important thing to djing. People just don’t spend as much time on the basics now. That’s why the old school guys get annoyed.
