Got new gear for Father's day

Ok, sorry to burst your bubble, but the best you can get out of this setup is hooking up the 850s to your SX2 and using them as deck 3 and 4 controllers (depending on the software you are using you can use HID for decent integration). However, the 850s have WAY less buttons to use for loops, cues and all the other fancy stuff even your MTP2 has.

The SX2 already has the option to let you use 4 decks (and the sampler/remix decks) with the push of a button and with all 4 channels operating. Unless you intend to do a LOT of 4 deck tricks (and being a new DJ I’d advice against that until you have 2 deck mixing fully under control), buying the Pioneer set up was not a good investment.

You won’t use the mixer (if you do the setup makes even less sense) at all and the 850s only as extra controller. Lots of extra booth space for actually less functionality (not counting CDs and rekordbox USB, but who needs those if he has a perfectly fine pro controller like the SX2 already).

SOrry to say, that money could have gone to other stuff, like music 😀

well, the 850 has no cue buttons, so you’d be pressing keys on your laptop to jump to cues. No gain there. Or are you saying you will use your ipad for remote control for Serato? Or do you mean you are gonna use your SX2 with an iPad app?

Sure you can use the mixer with two CDJ850s, but to add digital capability to it makes no sense once you have an SX2 there. And playing with that setup in pure analogue format is, just imho, offering up so much functionality that I can’t see the gain there either.

You can play with it a bit to find out just how powerful the SX2 is and how obsolete club set-ups are rapidly becoming, provided you don’t live in the “digital DJ-ing is not real DJ-ing” camp obviously. But then, who cares about those guys on these forums, right!

Pioneer gear does (still) hold its resell value, so getting rid of it in favor for something to complement your digital set-up, or pay for your music the next 10 years LOL.
