While 4GB is possible, it’s on the tight end of things. A Celeron processor I’d say is out of the question.

My advice would be at least an i5/2.0GHz+ CPU with 8GB of RAM and an SSD instead of a regular hard drive (and not a hybrid SSD/HD either).
Finding something in the price bracket might prove to be a challenge. Since you don’t need fancy graphics or sound facilities, when shopping don’t look for those features as you will pay for them at the expense of getting better components that you DO need.

The SSD is something you can swap later yourself if that helps spread the budget pain. All you usually need is a screwdriver and some patience or someone that can do it for you :-).

Unfortunately not. Still a Celeron processor not an i5.

This is the cheapest I could find here:

Still 420GBP (according to currency calculator from 569EU).

So, either look for super sale somewhere, buy used or save up a little while longer.

Have a look at Manufacturer reburbished PC’s – I bought my Dell from Dell themselves 4.5 years ago now and it’s still going strong. I think I paid just under £400 for a 2nd Gen i5, 8GB Ram, 500GB HDD laptop – which was highish end at the time..

This one (from a quick search) could be perfect: http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/SecondaryInventorySearch.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dfh&cs=ukdfh1&puid=b8e49e9f

Lots of bargains out there, just not from Argos..

I got a 2010 MacBook Pro for £300 from cash converters. You can make offers online. Keep a look out for good deals and make an offer. Offer 20% less and go from there until they accept your offer.
