I always though actual real flyers were awesome, when I was young I used to collect flyers from all the gigs I’ve been to,
If you know a thing or two about design, composition etc. you can make flyers work, thats my opinion.

Effective imho. They are pretty cheap way to get a nice amount of people, because it will make bigger impression than digital flyers. You just get to much information on the internet so you pretty much skip such things… The best way is to do a bit of both on the right spots, plus some verbal “work” with some of your friends…

Still effective. Graphics on social media are simply a mass amount of noise…and many like me work hard to hide it all from ever being seen on our news feeds.

It’s not just handing them out, but also having them at your gigs to advertise your next gig (provided you’re not stepping on the venue’s toes with that).

This is an argument we had with our locals, physical flyers or E-Flyers ?
It really depends on your own budget and how big is the events ?
If you tight on the budget (or no budget at all) stick with E-Flyers, you can always blast it away on twitter, facebook, or the favorite one is via BBM (Blackberry Messenger) you can put it in your picture profile and broadcast your event via BBM (its like a mass messages to all your contacts informing about your events)
Most of the time if the event it self its not making a huge profit anyway we just go by the E-Flyers route.

But if you think your event is going to be HUGE, with superstar guest star DJ’s or whataver, and you have the budget to throw around left and right by all means, do both physical flyers and E-flyers,
My best strategy is to hired 4-5 hot sexy females, dress sexy, have them walk around, around 100 miles radius from the venue you have your event on, armed them with the flyers, and get them to hand out in local mall, local hangout places, local 7-11 and such, and it only cost you like 50 dolla per female

The MAIN difference between the two, in my humble opinion, is that E-Flyers are pull-based and regular flyers are push.

What I mean by that is that only people that know your, follow you, have you on facebook or in any other way visit places you “put up E-flyers” will read it. With regular flyers you can go out the afternoon of a gig to the local mall for example and hand them out to new people that look like they are in your target group.

If there are any colleges or Universities around, be sure to find a way to post something there too. Students are usually looking for new entertainment. They might not be the biggest spenders ever (most are on a very tight budget) but they do like to party and would fill up a room nicely.

Hey, Chuck, good to see you back in da house 🙂 Agree completely with your assessment, good practical advice as always. You should come visit Boston though – for every student who is broke, there’s another from outside the states that’s thinking “hmm, this music’s not bad – think I’ll buy the club” 😎
