Like a red rag to a bull, that! I remember a live vinyl mashup I used to do of “Everlasting Love” from the 60s and a hard acid instrumental by Hardfloor,,, anything goes in my book!

Have to agree there. That was one of the things I loved about the early rave scene. I used to know a DJ who used to do a live vinyl mashup of Valley of the Shadows and Papa Don’t Preach, which sounded amazing.

I agree, anything goes, dont be constrained byt perfect beatmatching etc limiting your choices. MistaJam on BBC Radio 1 Xtra does a challenge to his listeners to give him any two tracks to mix, he’s always managed to do the times I’ve listened to the show. Since my early days of clubbing I’ve heard some awesome DJ’s who will go through all genres like michael jackson to jimi hendrix without skipping a beat. It’s why I tried to doing a latin mix – to try and push the envelope of what I can do and challenge myself, it wasn’t a good mix at all, but I’ve learnt a lot from it ๐Ÿ™‚ Its also about learning the techniques – learning to scratch is very useful here.

Well… theres always bridges to get to another genre – you just have to look hard enough. But mixing directly is a different story, I would say anything with a fiddle is gonna be difficult! ๐Ÿ˜‰

There’s an old SR mix on my Soundcloud, and an experimental mix (testing Stanton’s mix automation software) on my Mixcrate.
