    The last two on your list are scams. Tell them your windows where cleaned the other day and hang up.

    Keep them on line for as-long as possible the longer they are on line it costs them so put them on hold and get some Gabba music playing for them to listen too.

    In the Uk if you press 8 or 9 on the phone for automated calls you will get a message saying your name is off their database.

    Solar panels tell the caller you live in a submarine.

    Some of the callers are just doing their job so it’s nice to be nice in a funny way.

    Not any one of them offering you like a 10,000 dolla loan with low interest?

    @tommy hear me,

    my aunt works in a call center, though its for a utilities company so she helps people with their bills, and yes I agree that its good to be nice to legitimates, because they’re just doing their job, true. sometimes I even ask to speak to their supervisors just to express how wonderful the person was and that they deserve a promotion or pay rise, because why not?

    the first 2 I mentioned were definitely scammers though because they wanted to know eligibility which equates to “whats your address” “whats your age” things like that, they made it clear they didn’t care if I wasn’t interested in their offer which logically would make an eligibility check pointless, they were just interested in getting my info. they don’t use manners, their phone scripts are dodgy and they hang up on you without a second thought.

    now that I know keeping them on the phone costs them money, I feel a lot better about my plan to mess with them in the future for my own amusement. “blah blah solar panels?” “no thanks, its permanently night time here and the night is dark & full of terrors…”

    @Rizki,

    Nah, not yet anyway 🙂

    Even if they are legitimate, the moment you tell them not interested it should end the conversations. Asking questions like why are you not interested or worse saying you don’t want to save money so trigger me.

    These days I just tell them politely but firm I am not interested in what they are offering, wish them luck with their next calls and hang up.

    I’ve had them calling with questions like ” we are checking what phone/utility/whatever company you are with. Could you please confirm that you are with company A, B or C?”. I mean seriously guys, you make it sound like I have an obligation to answer and help you get your competitive information in order? I don’t think so!

    exactly.

    legitimates fishing for info when they’re already wasting your time, not cool.. surveys too.. ‘are you sure you don’t want to? its only a quick survey’ not cool… charities.. ‘doing a door knock appeal, could you do the last 20 houses in your area for us? no? anyone else there who can?…’ etc…

    think I’ll try your polite hang up method next time I’m hassled by legitimates, the scammers are still gonna get the bad jokes and general jabberwocky tho.. hehheheheh..

    I usually say I’m not interested over and over until they hang up, but sometimes I have a little fun with them. Especially the lottery people. They are REALLY dishonest. So I tell them that the moment they tell a lie, they will automatically be disconnected. Then I ask them if they want to sell lottery tickets. Of course they say no, but after a minute or so they almost directly admit to be selling tickets. Then I tell them very politely they are full of it and hang up. These days, I don’t get any of the lottery people anymore. Just like I don’t get any Jehova’s witnesses ringing my doorbell, I’m probably on their blacklist as well 😛
