It’s a coin toss really. It’s a good price for a nice controller, I think. And personally I am not a big fan of the SB (more of the MC2000 type LOL), so I am a bit biased there.

Actually the NS6 could be LESS suited when you progress, assuming that you will be going down the road with samples, loops and such, as the NS6 lacks performance pads which the SB has.

So, hard to advise on this one. I don’t think the overwhelming factor will be too major and you do get a bit more for your money I think.

Hopefully some NS6 owners will chip in.

I agree, the NS6 is very outdated now. The SB actually has more options.
I really like a controller with dedicated gain controls so the reloop Beatmix is also a nice option.

    hello K-shock

I actually happen to own SB,
I started out with SB this Feb, started as a resident DJ at a lounge bar since May.
I ended up replacing the original resident DJ and still using SB.

What I learned with using SB-Serato set up was
really the basics: beat-matching / key mixing / eq’s / tempo change / what not
that can be done without SB.
but with SB, i was able to do: manual drum beats / effects / scratches (it can be done) / loops and rolls / mashups
having a performance touch pad is a plus

now i’ve been contemplating about eventual upgrade to SR or SX2,
I guess I would consider SR as a “norm” quality of the controller…
although having 4 decks/tracks would be alot easier and better, I wouldn’t count against SB

I would recommend this not because i have it and use it on a regular basis
but i would recommend it cause it will make you learn the basic and with given simple functions, you get to learn them appreciate them and perhaps make you want to learn more (via upgrade in a long run)
So i think it should suffice your agenda of getting down with the basics.

try amazon or local sam-ash store if u’re in US, look for deals and sales events.

    Hey k shox

I have an NS6, been using it for about a year now. It’s my first controller as I’ve always used vinyl and thought having the 4 deck digital and analog combo would give me the best of both worlds. I really like the controller, it’s built really solidly. I do a lot of scratching so having something that doesn’t move about is a plus, although on the flip side of that, when it’s in a flight case it’s pretty heavy and bulky.

I tried a fair few other controllers whilst looking for my new toy and within my price range it was definitely the best of the bunch.

Now with all that being said….I use a MacBook Pro early 2015 i5 2.7 512SSD, and have been happily mixing away for about 5 months on it until last weekend when my Mac decided to upgrade to OS X 10.10.4…. No more NS6!! Serato still works, I’ve updated the ns6’s drivers and rolled back to the old versions, it doesn’t even register as a midi input. I’m stumped! No signs of Newmark releasing a new driver version.

So I’m not sure your planning on running your set up on, but hopefully that’s food for thought. Like Terry said, it’s a bit outdated now. It’s a bloody good piece of kit, but I think it’s days are numbered 🙁
