http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nady-CX-23SW-3-Way-DJ-Stereo-Crossover-SUB-Controls-/351196454143How would I properly hook this up using my set-up? I’m confused about how to hook up my tops to the outs, should they be low, mids, or highs?

ModeratorHeath,
I think, seeing as how your budget and your love for noname, “too much in a box for way too little money” gear seems to work for you, I would not go the crossover route.
What you REALLY need is a crossover that has a true 2.1 setup. That is 2 full range outputs and 1 subwoofer output. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find one like that yet (anybody, I’d love to know!). So the closest thing is something like the ART and abusing it a little by hooking up your sub to the LOW output, setting the crossover frequency at 250Hz (the lowest) and running your tops on the HIGH output and setting your sub crossover frequency to 250Hz as well. The crossovers you link to are not 2-way stereo, but 3-way stereo and I doubt you’ll get that working in the proper manner.
Frankly I think you are better off finding a way to split your controller output, and run one pair of cables into the sub, letting it handle the sub-low and the other into your tops. This will let your tops do the low end too, eliminating some of the advantages of having a proper sub setup, but that is the price you pay for not getting compatible gear. If hum remains a problem, find a way to eliminate the hum (the box I have suggested earlier).
Hope that helps, it’s all that I can tell you.

ParticipantThat ART one is still 2 way + sub – you need 1 way + sub – although you could use the art one as 2 way and just set the crossover frequency as low as possible – but then you might as well have bought a cheaper option os that one has lots of features you won’t need.
And I don’t have a clue what that second one is or does..?

ModeratorThe second one won’t work. It’s more of a volume control for two sets of monitors and a subwoofer, giving you the option of controlling the subwoofer volume by the looks of it.
The ART one does, as Bob already said, the same as the other one but has even more features you don’t need or want.

ParticipantI haven’t seen a 1 way crossover plus sub. Every one I’ve seen is a 2 way or a 2 way plus sub or up. What about this one?

ParticipantThat’s because I am fairly sure such a product doesn’t exist – people who use tops with subs tend to not bother of have a crossover in the sub..
That behringer one will work, but the ART one that Vintage suggested will do the same and is higher quality.. 🙂

ParticipantThe Berhinger has xlr balanced outputs though eliminating the need for that little box.
On the sub there is a filter switch so that the lower frequencies don’t go tot the tops, and there is also a frequency knob for the sub. When I bought this equipment I thought this was all that was needed. I think the problem is with the RCA jack coming from the controller to the sub not being balanced. Now that’s where I can see needing that little black box.

ParticipantThe problem is that the switch one the back of your sub only affects the powered outputs from your sub – which you aren’t using. Therefore you do need a crossover to make it sound the best it can..
I didn’t notice the outputs on the behringer actually – that would almost make it enough for me to recommend it over the ART one.. maybe…
(And that link you just posted doesn’t work by the way..)

ParticipantI do use the powered satellite outputs, which are the speakon outputs.
If i were to get this berhinger crossover which output would i use for the tops the high, mid, low?May 2, 2015 at 9:46 pm #2188351bob6397
ParticipantI thought you had grasped this earlier – your tops already have amps in. Therefore you will damage them if you feed them the already amplified signal from the subwoofer.
If you decide to ditch the crossover (an option), you should run:
Controller (RCA OUT) -> Sub (XLR IN)
and then (for each top separately)
Sub (XLR OUT) -> Top (XLR IN)
If you decide to get a crossover, you should run:
Controller (RCA OUT) -> Crossover (XLR IN)
Crossover (HIGH LEFT XLR OUT) -> TOP (XLR IN)
Crossover (HIGH RIGHT XLR OUT) -> Top (XLR IN)
Crossover (LOW LEFT & RIGHT) -> SUBWOOFER (XLR IN LEFT AND RIGHT)
That should work.. But DO NOT run the powered output from your sub into your powered speakers – you will end up blowing them up.

ParticipantOk, I’ll go with the Berhinger Super X CX310, just because it has the balance outputs.

ModeratorLet it be said for the record, that this is probably not gonna work properly.
I’m with Bob on this one.
My strong suggestion after three pages of back and forth:
1) Get the ART CleanBox
2) Get decent balanced XLR cables
3) RCA from controller to ART CleanBox input
4) XLR from ART CleanBox outputs to sub inputs
5) XLR from sub outputs to top inputs (again: do NOT use the satellite outputs on the sub!)Don’t worry about a crossover. The sub will only play everything under the frequency you set on it (recommended somewhere between 75-125Hz) and the tops will also do the low bit (which would normally be filtered out by the crossover in the sub, but you’ll live). All in all this will most likely give you as close to the result as possible you are looking for, with the least amount of extra gear and as little as possible number of setting/hooking up problems that you WILL get with the Behringer. At this point I’d even suggest against the ART X-over.
Again, buy the Behringer at your own risk. Don’t come blaming us if you can’t get the result you want.
Start a piggy bank and start saving up for your speaker upgrade.

ParticipantI’ve already tried hooking up the sub to tops with xlr connectors. It produces nothing. I think a crossover is just what the Dr. Ordered. It will take the place of a clean box.
