I’m using mixtrack with djio sound card. Works great. I’d really love the new NS6 but I’m not big league to out that kinda money down yet. Also using Numark NP-100 speakers(I think that’s the model) they sound really nice.

+1 for the Numark Mixtrack. I advice a separate sound card but that depends on the price of it. In my country a Numark Mixtrack + Numark DJ|iO is just above the price of a Numark Mixtrack Pro (about 25 Euros more) and i think it’s worth it.

With so many posts confirming the Numark reliability i guess we should put this post in front of the others so that every new DJ should see this important thread. Long live Numark 🙂

The Reloop Mixage IE (the built-in sound card version) is working exceptionally well for me. It’s metal and lacks the plastic-y feel of others in it’s class, the buttons and knobs well-placed and sturdy, and the mapping to Traktor Pro was a snap. I looked at various models at a retail store, but bought the Mixage after reading Phil’s review (which you should check out).

    It’s a 2-deck controller, though, if that’s an issue.

I started out in the world of digital DJ’ing two years ago with the Numark Total Control. It felt cheap and plasticky, but it showed me the ropes and helped me transition from CDJs to laptop based DJ’ing. The NTC has great functionality, ergonomics and build. It was the materials used that made it feel like a toy. I used it for about 6 months while I got my feet wet and got comfortable being a laptop DJ.

Second controller was a Hercules RMX. Great piece of kit! Worked flawlessly. Well built. Ergonomic. Full of functionality. I outgrew it, so I sold it, but I do miss it a little bit every now and then.

Third controller was a pair of Denon DN-SC2000s with an analog mixer. I really liked these and I still have ’em, but to many issues with the firmware. I didn’t appreciate Denon’s attitude with dealing with a known problem. I was able to finally devise a workaround to the many glitches. But, during one gig, I had them freeze up on me and that was all she wrote. I went online and bought my latest controller.

Newest and current controller is a Vestax TR-1. It was built specifically for Traktor. But for the exception of the FX buttons LEDs not lighting up, I have fully defined and mapped the TR-1 to use with Virtual DJ, my weapon of choice. The Vestax TR-1 is extremely flexible and is well suited for other softwares other than Traktor. It is phenomenal how well I got it to work with Virtual DJ.

I started with Hercules MK2. It was okay, except it was so small and all the knobs & Buttons felt cramped up here and there. As a result, I had to turn off the jogwheels function as I kept bumping into them while playing with the other knobs. Until I was sure that this ‘deejaying’ thing is for me, I upgraded to VCI 300. Huge difference, and am very happy with it so far.

I started with the very first DJ controller Hercules made. It got me hooked on digital, but was that bad, I mapped VDJ to my laptop to suit my style, and DJed just from the laptop for the next 5 years! (It was only when Vestax released the VCIs that I got back into having a controller, and settled on the VCI-300.)

My first and current controler is the Behringer BCD 3000…

Many say it is not the best one, and it is getting old now… But for that money(215 euros), brand new in a shop and it as a soundcard built in… plus Traktor Pro LE included…. (it works also on Traktor Pro Full, and no need for mapping)

    Im pretty happy with it…

Got to agree there. For the money it’s a great piece of kit, especially as there wasn’t a huge amount of choice when it came out, unlike today. Mine’s still running nicely, although I’m hoping to replace it once I start working again. I’m currently thinking about getting a VCI-100MKII or saving the extra to get a VCI-300.

The S4 certainly looks like a nice piece of kit, but rather excessive for my needs.

yeah… that is right on spot … right know it is also a bit excessive for me, but i need it in order to start getting creative on traktor, because as you may know, BCD 3000 works fine and all, but is a bit small and limited for traktor… and im currently going for the “gig as soon as you can” thing (LOL) and i would like to have the S4 in order to feel more confident about doing it… maybe people think i am being stupid, because im getting expensive gear and all, but in the end, im doing it with my own money and that gives things more value, so that will make me train harder my djing skills (not that i am not doing that already) and all the things that Phill is allways tallking about…

If you are certain that this deejay-ing thing is for you, go get the best equipment out there that you can afford to meet your needs. Rather than trying to save up by buying some mediocre ones, you’ll end up spending more in the end. Because after awhile, you’ll not be satisfied and think of upgrading, so in the end you’ll end up buying more things.

+1 to that. I’ve had my Mixtrack Pro about 6 months now, and I’m already looking to the future on what to buy – now the question is NS6 or S4?……

For me it would be the S4, you know it already… but it may depend if you use traktor or not… or if you like more the pro2 or the traktor pro .. if the pro 2 if for you the S4 is the choice… im basing my opinion on the review ive been seeing on website (maybe 10 or 12 revews xD)
