+1 for Danny.
I too would rather spend the money on a good used set (listen before buying though!) than on anything with Skytec (or a host of other fancy sounding but utterly hopeless brands) on the box.
One thing does have me slightly worried though. You say:
sound quality is not crucial because i only plan to spend about
$250 to $350
Yet you intend to let these speakers loose on people that attend your parties party. As a DJ I firmly believe that if you decide to DJ and you have any say/influence on the matter, you should try to have the best sound you can. We spend time and money getting high quality tracks, preparing them, buy good DJ controllers with decent sound cards in them. The least thing you want to do is throw all of that overboard by adding a (very) weak link at the end of your sound chain.
Remember: if it sounds bad, they will blame you. If it sounds bad, the after-party comments will be something like “wow, that sounded really bad, I won’t book that DJ for my own party”. So, in a sense you are hurting your own reputation too. And it’s way easier to lose a reputation (however well earned) than it is to build a good one.
